If it comes off, will be interesting to see what happens with the Jetstar Asia flight which runs 30mins ahead of this SIN-PER, also whether BA switches it's connections off that onto the QF flight.

Interesting. Clearly they don't see the demand to justify a 330 (or not enough shells). A 738 is a bit tough to imagine on the route, but makes economic sense. I guess if they can make money on it, and it services a need that many have been crying out for isn't something better than nothing?
 
And people on here called me crazy when time and time again I made suggestions that QF should at very least trial a 737 on this route rather than culling it!! :D

738 is better than nothing, I wonder if they would consider running an A330 on the weekend.

I have been to Singapore in January for the past 5 years and I had considered going again this year but flying either Jetstar or another airline to get Frequent Flyer points just didn't appeal.
 
Noting service start for our winter it could be a tester. You may well see an upguage during peak times if QF sees the demand for it.

It's just over 5 hours flying time according to the filing, which is about the same as your longest transcon, which they do put those pesky 73H's on (ugh) so it's certainly not at all unusual for a mission that long.. just not so comfortable when you will be seeing the business suites heading over to MEL for a much shorter flight.

The timing of the PER-SIN seems ideal for heading up there in time for dinner - not so sure about onward connections within asia bar close in places like KUL, but OK for longer haul connections I would think.

You can do a Scoot Biz probably for the same price as a Qantas Y Fare. I did this yesterday and the 787 is great, $550 return!
 
Good news for Sandgropers, but a 738 is a slap in the face.

didn't take long for the whingefest to begin...I predicted there would be 'distaste' from some, of a QF 737 (without flat beds in J/C) doing the PER/SIN/PER run....mind you...the whingefest has started by someone in MEL:D
 
Good news that we are being remembered - but the flight times seem odd to me

With no onward connection on QF to Europe - you would think the intent is to service the asian market.

So I would have thought it would be out early in the morning (8am) and back early afternoon (2pm)

If I'm going to Asia (say coughet) - I want to be getting into my hotel mid afternoon/ early evening at latest. A midday flight and then connection gets me in just before midnight.
 
So long as its always a 737 with IFE (ideally BSI), otherwise a damm long flight with no entertainment
 
I'm just grateful it looks like they are going to do this. I've been boycotting the JQ flight after trying it last year and instead have been using SQ (without lounge access tho).
 
Looks like I will have to buy a comfort (seating-one empty seat next to you/I) package again! Did it SYD to WLG and WLG to MEL.
I did the day flight from PER - SIN - PER in 2012, loved it!
Imagine if all flyers on that possible/likely QF 738 routing bought comfort (seating) packages! Would QF care?
 
Reading the announcement on airlineroute.net, I welcome the thought, but also note that the re-instatement is PROPOSED. I would be somewhat happier if the route was ANNOUNCED. But I have a pedantic streak at times.:shock: My thanks for noticing that I did (and do) comment (perhaps too much?) on PER (lack of) flights.

The timings mimic a much earlier time schedule and will allow travel from SIN with OUT impacting a business day seriously with the 1825 departure. I can appreciate that the QF economy fare exPER may align with ScootBiz, but it is unlikely I would consider that option. And any ticketing I do on the route will likely be done exSIN. Note that while creating major time considerations while I was crediting mostly to AA, BA flights and codeshares via SYD were not all that much more expensive than the flexible fares I would have required from QF to adequately credit to AA. And of course, offered much more mileage credit (and PEY along with upgrade potential on BA). It will be interesting to see if connections from other SE Asian points will be cheaper on CX (via HKG) or on QF (via SIN).

The other issue is that (spending my own money) I plan trips seriously far in advance. So while QF may think that four months notice will change my flight choices, I regret to say that it just isn't so. And I keep hoping for UL to announce CMB-PER-MEL. :rolleyes: I have noted that UL does code share with MH, but amazingly that PER-KUL-CMB fares are substantially higher than the reverse exCMB.:shock:

So yes, perhaps QF is beginning to understand that concept of a flight network and how seemingly unimportant segments can undermine the entire body if not maintained. Pity that the second NRT connection was announced as BNE. :(

Whingefest?? Pretty sure most people would agree that a 738 on an International 5 hour flight for a full service carrier to that region is sub par. Ex-Sandgroper myself so this is still a positive for locals now that Perth is back on the International map for QFi!
