hi there, i booked a classic award flight from JFK to LAX the other day. I think I have found the same flights but for less points. can anyone let me know what the penalties are for cancelling the existing classic award booking. I want to see if I will come out in front.

cheers

I have nust cancelled a classic award HKG-SYD and was charged a 5,000 point cancellation fee.

How have you found 'the same flights for less points'?

If its possible to change your existing booking to a new booking, instead of cancelling and rebooking, it will only be 3500 points cost

Re: penalties for cancelling a classic reward seat(s)

QF is usually 5k points. You can get around it by ringing the call centre to cancel & rebook.

Not sure about other programs.

Not sure about bigjobs but I had HKG-SYD booked in economy for 30,000 QFF points. Then they had the 35% off special so only 19,500 QFF points required. No brainer really. Call centre would not change existing booking so had to cancel and make new booking although saved a few dollars on the taxes and surcharges. ;)

Difficult to see why the points would have changed for exactly the same flight(s). If it's a more direct route then I could see how it would be possible. And then you should be able to get away with a 3,500-point change fee.

Otherwise, then as others have said, it's a 5,000-point cancellation fee. I pay quite of a lot of them.

Hi, I also made use of the 35% off special and cancelled my existing booking approx 1 month ago now. I am still waiting on refund of points and taxes paid. I have been told it takes a while as billed from Hong Kong office, but how hard can it be? I may just need the 25,000 points owing and will be unhappy if they don't appear soon. I now have a weird voucher attached to the original booking number with a March 10 expiry. Anyone else have experience of this, were you told to expect a long wait for refund JohnK?

Give them a call and ask them to speed up the refund process.

My refund did not come through for 2-3 weeks. Called about something else and mentioned the refund and she sped up the process. QFF points and refund to credit card appeared next day.
