Could an admin change the thread title to indicate this was via OLCI? Thanks!
Hi guys,

Weird situation:
4 of us checking into QF774 using OLCI, all booked into economy. 1 x QFNB, 1 x QFPS, 2 x QFSG.

1 x SG QFF gets 4A (me)
1 x SG QFF gets 5F
PS gets something towards the middle
NB gets 1A :!:

(We're all booked into economy, and have all been charged for economy flights.)

WTF?

I checked the seat selection page - rows 1-3 were definitely available for selection (only a few seats taken). Wonder what's going on? Some sort of extremely early, extremely lucky op-up? Or more likely a glitch with OLCI?

Will be interesting to see what happens when boarding.

Cheers,
- Febs.

Perhaps an all Y config?

Wasn't aware there was such a thing (on common QF domestic routes like this). :oops:

The seat selection map did show 2x2 configuration for rows 1-3, which would fit with a J configuration I believe.

The seatmap linked from the Qantas booking shows 12J 156Y too.

Edit: and the other 3 of us aren't able to view seating for rows 1-3, as per normal for OLCI in economy.

Cheers,
- Febs.

For today, QF are definitely selling J seats ADL-SYD on QF774 on a 73H.

Single class from memory were 734's :?:

Maybe just got lucky?

Find out soon enough I guess. :)
(As you noted too, I made a mistake in the title. Should be ADL-SYD.)

Cheers,

Flight looks to be pretty full too (perhaps as expected for a Friday evening).

Pity it wasn't you Feb's that scored what looks like an elusive op-up.

Can we have subtitles for this please?

What is OLCI? Online check in?
QFNB?
QFPS?
QFSG?
SC?
SG?
PS?
NB?
URAFW?

Sorry mate, becomes second nature around here. I was confused as hell when I first joined up.

OLCI = On-line check-in
QF = Qantas
NB = "Nothin' bronze"
PS = "Plebian Silver"
SG = "Scum Gold"
WP = "Wanker Platinum"
URAFW = Right back at ya, champ. ;)

I guess nutcase you would have missed all of the frequent flying acronyms given all your posts seem to be in the CC forums - except for an old rant at frequent flyers.

So Febs - will you calling someone when you are onboard to update them of the outcome so they can post here before you land ;)

I presume someone will get to the gate, and the magical "Beep" will happen. Although in this case, it probably won't be a rare upgrade, but a seating re-assignment "due to operational requirements" :D

I'd be interested in how it turns out. Upgrades do occur for NB's at times, but they are pretty rare.

Especially when they occur during OLCI!

Update: During check-in, she was told "Hmm..seems one of you has been upgraded (my other colleague was the QFPS/QC member). Apparently, he was supposed to be upgraded (by virtue of his Qantas Club membership*), but as their bookings were linked, she was upgraded (I realise this makes little sense :)).

Apparently now there are 2 remaining J seats awaiting points upgrades, and the check-in agent recommends we ask for these at the gate, on the change they're not taken using points.

Aannyway...long story short...she has a 1A boarding pass and I'll update soon. :)

Cheers,
- Febs.

PS: I stupidly tried to get through security with a wrapped gift which contained an item that normally shouldn't be carried on (it's been a big week, I'm buggered). I apologised and said I'd happily undo the wrapping so he could remove the sharp items. He checked with his senior before handing it back and saying "Not everyone would do this...but here you go." Champion. :)

*Strange that the upgrade would go to a QFPS/QC member, rather than one of the QFSG's.

Well there you go. :)
She boarded fine and is now sitting in 1A. :)

Lucky! Has anyone ever heard of a successful, unrequested upgrade DURING OLCI before? I certainly haven't!

I have never heard of it via OLCI, only ever a real person checking in. One reason i usually just wander up and manually check in unless its domestic where i just check in at the QP.

Re: Booked in economy, given seat 1A (QF774 SYD-ADL)...wha?

It is a marketing ploy.

Give a nil status passenger an upgrade during OLCI and it then gets posted on forums like AFF and soon everyone is using OLCI just in case they also get that elusive upgrade. End result is QF requires less check in staff as everyone is using OLCI.

I'm sure I've read about something similar either here or on FT before, but agree it's pretty rare! Congrats to your colleague/friend.

JohnK,

I've said it before BUT it's still accurate. You are a CYNIC :!:
