I did it on the app a few weeks ago. They are not treated as separate segments (same applies if doing Fly Ahead through the call centre). When you view the options on the Fly Ahead page, the earlier PER-MEL-SYD connecting itineraries with availability will come up and you rebook both flights at the same time.
