SQ Tips, Trips and Tales

Yes. It’s been that way for a long time, but not something that’s often published, lest it gets shut down?

As much as I enjoy reading and participating in general discussions, for me the goal of frequent flyer forums is to share useful tips that makes our travels easier. The option to view and change seats on other airlines is not a glitch but a long running feature of the *A network. If anything SQ should fix their system as it makes no sense to block the seat map 4 days before departure.

Last month I got to spend more time than usual in TPR sampling all 3 menus. The food was excellent! Every dish was restaurant quality. This is how a true first class lounge should be, both in terms of service and F&B.

Over time the modern look grew up on me and I love the decor now but wish there was something like a bar to socialise as it can get bit boring after a while.

Still sucking up that Comtes vinegar I see?

You could lower yourself and go rub shoulders with the commoners in F Lounge? 👍 There is a good bar there and the dudes behind bar are always up for a chat 👍 And TPR staff are happy to run any F & B across to you 👍

Edit: There is also the bar in J section which used to be an absolute hoot pre Covid when Muhammed was resident barman there but he never reappeared post Covid. And TPR staff will still very the TPR drinks out to you 👍

Extra Edit: Pre T3 opening there was a fantastic bar in T2 J Lounge - OMG could that ever get rollicking later at nights on occasions - Staff were consistently trying to quieten down the revellers but usually just gave up

The bars in J and F lounges are great. Each lounge hosts different pax and it would have been nice to be able to socialise with the guests in TPR without moving to another lounge. SQ invested a lot in that space, it should be more than just a restaurant.

Yeah was gonna say. I booked J Saver SYD-SIN for Nov 26 on Saturday. Nov 28 redemptions won't appear until 11 a.m. AEDT today

Thanks - I'm after 4 x J Savers AU-EU between 18 Dec and 23 Dec :D LOL

I'm expecting nothing at all between these dates..... and of course fares to be 50% higher, but it's the earliest we can leave next year :(

It's a nice bar, although, wondered if Mohamed ever made it back after COVID, as I haven't been there often enough when the bar is actually open to tell. In fact since re-opening I got to use the bar twice, in the first hour or so after the bar opened in the late afternoon. I wish they'd open it much earlier, or train staff to be able to tend it at least during the day. Most of my flights have been late morning departures or early afternoon departures (eg. SQ 217 to MEL) and it's disappointing that it only opens at 5:30pm. I guess that's the price you pay if you want to use day flights, but on the flipside it probably costs them more in Champagne than it would if I were drinking coughtails at 10am . 🤣

Geniuely asking for a friend:
They are in Singapore (Sentosa) for NYE but are heading to Crown Changi NY Day to overnight there before 8am flight to HND on Friday (2nd Jan). They've been asking me whether using 24 hour bag drop on Thursday when they get to Changi on the Thursday afternoon is an option so they don't have to lug their baggage around nor rush down too early Friday morning to do bag drop. Will SQ accept luggage for Friday flight on Thursday afternoon?

If that is possible, how long should they allow Friday morning to get through departures, get to gate and through gate security before boarding on Friday morning? They travel domestically a fair bit, so are not twits when it comes to getting through airports, but this will be first family trip (2 adults, 2 teens) overseas (I think), and first trip through SIN.

Yes they should be able to use the bag drop.

For getting through departures, to gate and through security the biggest variable is how close the gate is to immigration. I'd say 30 minutes would cover it even with teens - and to the furthest gate. It's 5-10 mins for immigration, including walking there from CP lobby, 5-20 mins to get to the gate, and security will take however long it will take. Once you're at the gate, as long as it's least more than 25 minutes before departure (let's say 30 mins for a SQ/SIN novice), the time it takes to clear security is not really relevant, as they know that the people queuing for security are for that flight*.

* except for multi-gate security, but if they're wanting to close the aircraft they'll proactively look for people on the specific flight where there are more than one flight going from the shared gate area.

You can check in up to 48 hours in advance at check in counters and 24 hours at kiosks. So no worries with that.

Departing singapore takes just a few minutes, security is at the gate.

The gate closes 15 mins before departure. So arriving an hour before is plenty, unless they want lounge time.
