A British vacation (but I'm also going to Japan)

Anyways, time to go to York.

LNER first class was not bad!


They have different catering services, not sure which one this was, but not the good one!


So we only had the bacon roll.

Since we were only staying one night in York, I booked the Milner as it's directly connected to the train station.

The building was grand.


As were the stairs.


My room not so much


Bathroom looked to be from a different hotel, or just renovated


Note: in my room you could hear noises from platforms. No such problem for mother as her room facing a different direction.

The next day was going to rain, so I wanted to get the outdoor activities done first.

York City Walls.













I didn't walk all the walls as mother was waiting for me down there....but really loved it.
Especially the last photo which was taken somewhere close to the station.

York Minster was not easy to shoot....get too close and you are left with this

Shambles was a bit disastrous though...

Clifford Tower, we didn't go in.

Dinner was at a French restaurant.

Day 9

Hotel breakfast in the morning, £15 per person.


Mother declared "church out", so we went to the Railway Museum instead

The area around York Station was a major construction site!
To get to the Railway Museum you had to take some serious detour


At least the signs were good..


Apparently this little thing goes to the city centre.

Back to York Station, time to go to Edinburgh.


This was lunch time, so the menu was a lot better than the day before.


I ordered the steak, err, this was not what I had in mind....


Apple crumble was great though!

Edinburgh hotel prices were almost as expensive as London!
I found a deal on FHR though, booked Kimpton Charlotte Square.

No upgrades! Apparently they were full, mother and I even ended up on different floors...

Room was nice, I was not too fussed.




They were going for the retro vibe...


The "birdcage" was our usual meeting point.

Dinner was at the restaurant BABA onsite.

Day 10

Breakfast was in the same place as Baba.


Tried some haggis


Egg Benedict, no s since they gave you only one!


Coffee was terrible Ah how I missed Melbourne!
