Hi everyone
I will shortly be flying in J on JAL. I understand that JAL provide Pyjamas to J class passengers. I have some questions.

1. I have heard that these are not 'full' Pyjamas. What are they like?

2. Are different sizes available?

3. Do they have to be returned at the end of the flight?

Thanks Peter

I don't think they do. They basically just lend you a cardigan.

Amenity and others (JAL Business Class) - JAL International Flights

Full PJs in F only.

1. It’s a cardigan. See here Amenity and others (JAL Business Class) - JAL International Flights

2. One size fits all IIRC.

3. I’m not sure. I wore my QF PJs. :)

Hmmm

At least I'm flying Qantas on the way back so I'll get a set of PJs then. Hopefully they don't need to be returned also.

Mind you it does say that JAL provide slippers. I could use a set of slippers. :)

One of my wardrobe drawers is basically dedicated to QF PJs. I assure you that they do not need to be returned :D

After my trip on JAL I will now be writing to JAL management to point out that their lack of a set of PJs in J is simply not acceptable by modern airline standards

However rather than introduce PJs I will suggest that JAL provide it's J passengers with a colorful Yakata to use as sleepwear for the trip and which can be kept as a memento of the trip. The Yakata need not be expensive to make but it should be usable in summer. The design on the Yakata should change every couple of months and J passengers should specify their size before boarding or perhaps collect the Yakata in the business lounge.

In that way JAL can effectively compete with other carriers by providing a traditional and authentically Japanese momento as a keepsake

I'm sure that would go down a treat with their predominantly Japanese J passengers.

To be fair there aren't many airlines offering PJs in J. And the QF offering are more gimmicky than anything - otherwise they'd also offer them on day flights (street clothing is just as restrictive during the day when lounging, and just as likely to get creased. And food just as likely to get spilled during the day. For the dollar or two it costs them, if they were serious they'd be freely available at all times.)

need to be thrown put after a couple of washes though.....may as well hand them back on exiting

Off the top of my head I can’t recall many airlines that offer PJs in J class. Perhaps I fly with the wrong airlines?

I don't know how you're washing yours but the way I do it (wash bags, minimal detergent, no hard chems - as is the case with any delicates) has turned out just fine.

You may want to spell it Yukata, or they might not understand what you're asking for.

if I was asked to return them, I would refuse. I donate mine to charities that cater for the homeless, there but for the grace of god go I.

Qantas does PJ's more consistently than any other airline.
