Facebook privacy and the forum's "recommend" button

Given the recent issues surrounding FB, I draw your attention to the "Recommend" button that sits at the bottom of every thread on the forum. (Scroll down this page and you'll see it). This button is the same as the FB "Like" button, just with a different word.

We know that this widget creates a cookie in your browser and gathers your data across the web. While maybe it's been ignored in the past, should it now be removed, given what we know about how user data is being abused by FB?

I'm not sure on the specifics of how the button works, and perhaps a more knowledgeable user could chime in, but next to the button for me it suggests I need to "sign up" to see what my friends have recommended. To me, this suggests I have not linked my Facebook account with the account I log in to AFF with. Certainly, if you are as concerned as you appear to be with what data Facebook holds on you, deleting your Facebook account would solve the problem and then it wouldn't matter if you saw a Facebook button here or not? Personally, I've always been more worried about how Google tracks me, but I still use their services.

It's worth noting our integration with Facebook helps new users join AFF too, many users with their full name instead of a standard anonymous username have signed up through Facebook. Those users should be aware that if they want to be more anonymous they are welcome to send me an email or open a conversation and I can change their username.
