Hi All,

in Premium Economy, on airlines that have that class, do any/many seats come with movable armrests - are both armrests movable ?

i am thinking mainly in terms ox CX, SQ, LH, QF, VA and similar airlines.

i flew to Melbourne recently in row three (?) the first Economy X row, and was disappointed to find that both armrests were fixed. i realised on a later flight, sitting a row back with both armrests movable, the reason was because that's where the tray table is stored.

i am looking at flying to EU in a year or two, either over and back on the same route, or home via Nth America, in premium Economy, and wanted to make sure that the Premium Economy seas would have movable armrests.

I think on every airline, economy or premium economy seats that have a bulkhead in front, or a long gap to the seat in front (often the front row of the class) will have fixed armrests, to house the tray table.

in your experience, the PE seats that don't have a bulkhead and big gap in front of them, are both armrests usually movable, have you noticed at all ?? i am looking at the comfortable and limited mobility factor here.

TIA

Never flown PE, sorry and limited whY (international); hopefully some-one can chime in, but I think it would be unusual to have fixed armrests other than in those situations .. unless maybe there's been a funny configuration change just before the flight.

Think most PE designs have fixed armrests.
Normally because these premium seats have a proper tray table that slots into the armrest.
Certainly the case for QF, CX, SQ, NZ, BA

As for Y - its generally only the bulkhead (and sometimes exit) rows (again because of swing up tray tables and often swing up TVs)

Premium Economy on the Qantas 787 has armrests that can be lowered for all aisle seats, except those at the bulkhead.

Cathay Pacific has/had moveable armrests on their older PE, including the bulkhead, for the centre two seats of quadruple seat units. Today this would only apply to some non-refurbished 777s (the 747s being withdrawn). You can see the design in this article in the third picture: Cathay Pacific holding on tight for eventual economic upturn | Aspire Aviation The tray tables were in the middle of each seat pair, leaving the outside armrest free to move.

Unfortunately I don't think that's been replicated in the 'new' PE seats which seem to have fixed armrests for all seats now.

Some airlines are introducing moveable armrests in PE for aisle seats as mentioned in other posts above.

Isnt there suppose to be a magic button under the armrest somewhere, so you can lift it?

Surprised the heck out of me once when I got my aisle seat and the aisle side armrest went up. It was doing that as the person sitting there prior had a mobility issue - all seats should do it freely in my world.

I was in the middle seat of a Virgin flight and got a dreadful bruise on the back of my legs as the seat rests were fixed. Now I always move them up.

Certainly in the MH A330 we flew last year I was able to find a button in a "hole" on the underside of the aisle armrest and raise it fully up.

yes. select seats (not always all) have moveable armrests, released by a button. Depends on the seat design.
