Hi Guys,

Every time I do checked luggage, it either gets a priority tag or business tag. The business one is much better as it comes out quicker of course but why cant I get business all the time??

Are QF Gold supposed to get business tags or priority tags..

Everyone has priority tags these days so whats the point in that...

Cheers

If you travel business all the time then you would get business ones

iirc, Gold travelling economy is supposed to get an orange priority tag
Platinum travelling economy on a domestic service is supposed to get a purple business tag if there is a business cabin and an orange priority tag on a one class service

I haven't noticed any difference between the orange and purple tags domestically

Particularly at MEL, both colours seem equally able to make your bag come out somewhere at the end

Depends on whether it is economy, business or first you are flying + whether it is domestic or international.

The higher of the two (sts vs class of flying) will be applicable:
For a SG I believe the following applies:
DOM - Y class: Priority Tags
DOM - D Class: Buss Tags
INT - Y Class: Priority Tags
INT - D Class: Buss Tags
INT - F Class: First Tags

More so than just following the "rules" it highly depends on who is behind the check-inn counter. Buss/Prio are often random; First Tags only when WP or flying F.

Still lots of non-tagged luggage on DOM/INT and both Prio and Buss Tags still come out first (in most cases :))

Hmmm
Travelled CBR-SYD the other day as SG in economy and got Business tags.

QF priority luggage tags... is that smoke I see in the mirror? :D

I have noticed I am getting the business tags much more frequently in the past 3-4 months. (I'm SG).

If there is split check in for Qantas Club and Busines, SG can use business but PS and QC Bronze must use the QC.

Leads me to believe that SG probably should get business tags, but clearly it is a grey area.

going by this:
SG gets "priority baggage ##" and WP gets that plus First class baggage tags on international flights.

In practice, I have seen when travelling WHY, Business class tags as an SG and First Class tags as a WP. This for both domestic and international.

There is some thought that you won't get Gold/Yellow F tags if your flight does not have First Class.

## Valid only on Qantas-operated flights with a Qantas flight number.

From the info below, it seems Gold = Business tags.

Your baggage will be Priority or Business* tagged when you travel on Australian and New Zealand domestic flights marketed and operated by Qantas or QantasLink.

* When you are travelling domestically in Business Class or if you have Platinum or Gold Frequent Flyer membership.

Yet another example of the Qantas rules and benefits being so convoluted that no even they can be consistent. The gold benefits booklet says you get priority tags yet the above says business tags.

In my experience I get business tags on domestic (Y) flights.

It's difficult to expect the Qantas staff to get it right when the rules are different depending on where you look.

One would argue Priority Tags is the generic name for "Priority", "Business" and "First" tags.

Aside from colour:
  • Priority
  • Business
  • First

On more than a few occassions travelling Y class from Perth to Canberra, I've been given the yellow 'First' tags. Didn't make any difference to how quickly the bags appeared, although there's been lots of 'ooh' and 'ahhs' from visitors who've seen the tags (now stuck to my fridge)!

You do realise that the baggage handlers interpret the "First" tags as being the bags they are to load onto the aircraft first, thus making them the last to come off the aircraft.

Nah - I thought the bags marked 'First' and 'Priority' etc. were the ones that the handlers chucked in extra hard!

Just like the golden rule of 'the more fragile stickers are put on your suitcase - the further it gets thrown/kicked/dragged/etc.'!

Hi All,

Thanks to all who responded, clearly it is luck of the draw.

On this occasion, travelling Y, i got Business tags in both directions (MEL-PER).

In my view, they seem to be consistently inconsistent...

QF does not really like you at all Peter or you must have some serious bad luck.

Travelling SYD-CNS in economy on Australia day I was allocated 4C with middle seat blocked and my luggage was 3rd or 4th on the carousel with the red business tags. All week during my Queensland Mining Towns Tour I was getting favourable seats on the Dash 8's with the worst in row 4 and scored exit row pre-allocation on a number of occassions. Returning BNE-SYD on a 767 a few days ago I was allocated 24B, OK not such a great seat as there is no window but no one next to me for the flight. Not sure how quickly the luggage arrived as I stayed in the Qantas Lounge for over an hour and collected my bag from baggage services when I was ready to leave.

For all those that believe in conspiracy theories I am QF Platinum, surname somewhere in the middle of the alphabet, get very favourable, forward aisle, seat allocations most times and luggage does not take long to arrive on the carousel.

Yes, it's official, YY has the worst luck with QF ever. Someone should write a book! Always gets 'biscuits' never a meal, never gets bags coming out at the right time, never gets upgrades, never gets emails on time, ALWAYS gets these supposedly common 'grumpy' staff. I suggest no one ever travels with him incase this chronic QF 'bad luck' or targetted QF hate campaign rubs off on them!

Conversely, YY has the BEST luck EVER with DJ.....all the time... without exception ;) Funny that :p.... Conversely I recommend travelling with YY on DJ to experience this Utopia!

Personally I get a mixed bag on both, and thats enough to keep me happy!

I always get business tags with QFF gold :D. I lie, once I got First but that was because the agent had run out of Business and was nice enough to 'upgrade my baggage'! Pity she couldn't upgrade me!!

:D Hmmm... time to put your guns back in your holster, cowboy. :!:

I'm not sure what your problem is p7 - I've posted both positive and negative comments about Virgin Blue and Qantas on these forums since Dec 2004. I'd guess you have not read very many of those posts or you'd know that.

The past few years I have been very positive about my experiences on Virgin Blue for the sole reason that IMO they provide better service. While I have felt less positive about my experiences with Qantas, I have not posted much about that in the past 6-12 months. Until this week...

I decided to post a few negative (yet completely accurate) comments about Qantas and guess who came charging out of the blocks to attack me? Step forward p7. It obviously got right up your nose. Perhaps you work for Qantas? Based on your consistently defensive posture it's a reasonable assumption. My apologies for baiting you p7, but you were an easy catch!

What I don't get is why you feel the need to attack me for being a happy Virgin Blue customer? Or why you make bogus claims about the airline (e.g. 45 min cut-offs at check-in)? Why not post something decent instead of inserting barbed and critical comments (or if they're not barbed then they're simply ignorant comments) in many of your posts? While you claim to get a "mixed bag" on both airlines, you certainly have never posted anything but derisory comments about Virgin Blue so the commentary is anything but balanced.
