Booked via Priceline for what was certainly a bargain ($90 AU all up). No discrimination of Priceline at check in, allocated a 2 double bed as requested (rather than 1 queen) & 12th floor. Had a view toward south station, very comfortable beds, small but functional bathroom (again needed glasses on to work out how to drive the shower with another system in place!) Air con had own controls & could even display in Celsius. Lifts are fast & plentiful, in room display of bill & ability to checkout on system & drop key. There is no free Wi-Fi in the room but you can pay to hook up or go down to the lobby for free use on some of the hotels computers (30 minute limit per stay) or use your own computer for wifi. Hotel obviously is heavily reliant on conferences.
There is a ready supply of cabs straight outside. The trip to the airport was quick ($25 with tip) & soon at JetBlue check in.

I presume this is not the "Sheraton Boston Hotel"? (Have a stay coming up) which is presumably more in the middle of town?

Was at 39 Dalton St. From what I can see on the web this is the only Boston Sheraton. Let me know if you have any questions. It was certainly pretty central although it is a walk to the South Station area. The Back Bay amtrack & T stations are very close

Cool that's the one.

Restaurants nearby? I also heard there is a Starbucks virtually in the lobby? Breakfast options? And yes, I'm heading there on a conference rate that was only $20 more than what the holiday inn express wanted so easy decision for me.

Starbucks is in the hotel lobby. You have a coffee maker in room with gratis couple of African Blend per day that tasted great to me. Certainly you can walk to many restaurants- range from bar food up to high end with valet parking at the restaurant. Didn't look at the breakfast options in the hotel but the whole walk thru the Prudential shopping/food area offers some options- I found this area dead at night. A very strange mix of nuts are provided when you order a drink at the bar- some defy their looks. Also there are some really short stools at the bar for a strange seating position. I am not into coughtails but they looked like pretty good value. I think a walk down Boylston St wil solve all your worries of food- also see my trip report with lobster at the whiskey bar. Filenes Basement( 5 minutes or so walk & better than Macys) is certainly recommended if you want clothes, shoes etc-you have to really pick your way around in narrow aisles & I highly recommend the Freedom Trail walk

Thanks so much for the info, much appreciated!:)

Sorry to be a pain but another question - how late are the shops nearby open as I have conference finishing late (~630pm) each day? Although I will have some time on the Saturday afternoon to shop I guess.

Most stores in the USA are open till 2100.EG Filene's basement(another reccomendation) are open 9-9 Mon-Sat.
Also dont forget the chains.I believe you will be there close to Labor day-sale time.At Macy's dont forget to go to customer service and get your visitors discount coupon-at least 10% off(does vary a little between states).Need to have a photo ID but a drivers licence will do.

From memory there were still places open until 9pm. On the other side of the coin, not much happens prior to 10am re shopping. Filenes Basement, only a short walk awaywas the bargain shopping spot for both mens & womens clothing & shoes-apparently they have constant turnover of stock. Not the best set out shop but if you persevere you will uncover bargains
