Decided to stay here on our current trip when the prices fell and able to get a Shareholder's rate of ~ $180.Also get 20% of restaurant.
Functional but not much else.Shower only and the shower and toilet are open but very dark-

Certainly very convenient to checkin. But when watching prices it was often $70 above the Mercure and $100 above the Ibis and I don't think it is worth that much extra.

Shocker of a view
I actually don't mind a hotel not having a bath and I would prefer that to a shub (my personal pet hate).
We stayed at the Parkroyal MEL on the weekend and although a bit on the pricy side I actually thought it was quite good.
I love the idea of getting up in the morning and walking over to Int Departures :)

I stayed at Rydges Sydney Airport in October for two separate nights. First night was a very late check in after letting a large group of last minute cancelled flight pax check in ahead of me (the bar was a better option than standing in a long queue).

The room on that night was on the top floor (7 IIRC) at the far corner of the building, floor to ceiling glass overlooking the airport. It was a great view and I was sorry I had to leave before much of the airport activity began.

On the second stay I checked in at around 4pm and was given a boxy room on a low floor with a view of a small overgrown garden area and air conditioning units. It was very dark and claustrophobic.

I'd definitely book there again if I got a room similar to my first experience, but not sure I'd like to chance a repeat of the second experience.

The beds are very comfy.

Stayed there a few times, some rooms are better then others but they are all not too bad for a short stay.
The hotel still has the new clean feeling unlike some older hotel in the area like Stanford plaza that look and feel very dated.
Will stay there again if price much cheaper then hotels in the CBD.

We had one night there in Oct. at new Rydges at airport, joined up before booking paid a mere $160 (had breakfast in 1st lounge next morning), absolute best location outside Int. terminal, found check in/out quick, good room size clean and well furnished, bed excellent, big bathroom, went to bar to kill few hours met guy from my old hometown. Oh' Crown larger was on special just $5 a pop, had a few - well more than a few. Will certainly stay there again.

Thanks for reviews on Rydges Sydney Airport. We are staying there night of 17 Feb, night before we fly out on QF321 to Santiago.

I booked it the week the hotel opened back in May, got it for $160. We stay at various Rydges Hotels often, not bad, join their Priority Guest Club, get better prices plus 20% off food and drink, plus a free drink. Also members of National Seniors, so Rydges give members complimentary brekkie, it all helps !

It's a decent hotel and for early-morning international flights cannot be beat ... but I have two quibbles, if you don't know Sydney Airport, it would be a bit of a maze to try and find the entrance... and the COMPLETELY open bathrooms are very strange.

1 night there in November - very convenient for International Terminal (2 mins walk) very quiet, room had a great view. Will definitely stay again

Yes, I heard the bathrooms are a little risqué, built for flying nudists? :p

Handy tip for the AFF Seniors. The membership fee would more than cover a couple of breakfasts then you're on a winner for future stays!

Looking at booking this for the in-laws. Share holder discount? Can you tell us more Dr Ron?

I much prefer the Stamford Plaza when overnighting near SYD.

We used to do the Stamford, but it's a 5 min walk if that from the Rydges to check-in, plus I agree it needs a serious re-furb.

Stayed one night in December 2013, very nice new hotel (only open a few months I think) and a fresh approach to the inclusions in the room (the wildy overpriced snacks and games which I'm sure are there for kids to badger their parents into buying for them, or late night arrivals to snack on after a long flight). I got a reasonably good rate, so my comments are based on getting all of this for fairly good value.

My view was similar to DrRon's (the car park) but I didn't care, I was there for sleep only and an early flight. Staff were also very helpful and customer focused which is my No1 issue.

Highly recommend it, particularly if you just need an easy stroll to the terminal first thing in the morning.

My impressions of Rydges SYD airport were pretty much the same as yours, even down to the pics :)

Evacuate, Evacuate now now and

Sound asleep at Rydges Airport hotel last night, at 1am the evacuate, evacuate, evacuate, evacuate now now now went off non stop, bloody loud too, Mrs lime picked up phone, not coming from there, we bounded out of bed threw clothes on, grabbed handbag, my wallet, phone and iPad, out door "to find fire exit" as did the other 300/400 guests, then down the stairs 7 flights!! following a woman just wearing a towel!, turns out someone left hot shower on and it then it set off sprinklers in that room (and auto alarm) due to steam we were told, back to bed half hour later, well that stuffed our sleep up for the night with early morning flight out.

I still recon it was someone smoking in a room?.

Re: Evacuate, Evacuate now now and

Living in a 22 storey apartment building this was a frequent occurrence.

Smoking in corridor, burst toast "airing into corridor", faulty sensor, kitchen smoke. All scattered thru the building. 5 times in 6 months.

Seriously tempted after the third in two months to stay in the apartment but decided to be safe.

Nothing quite like carrying an awoken and startled 1yo down 22 flights of stairs at 3am in the middle of winter out onto the street.

Then having the lift queue to get back in again - no-one willing to let you queue jump desire the frazzled and clearly should be asleep 1yo.

No desire to live in a multi storey apartment building again!
