Ok, here's the last of the hotel reviews for my Perth trip.

We stayed in a deluxe room for one night. The bathroom looked a little dated, but the room was very comfortable with modern decor. Loved the bed and pillows.

There were a few issues we encountered:
1. Initially we had difficulty finding a park in the underground carpark on the Saturday afternoon as all the spaces for hotel guests were taken. It's only after we inquired that we could in fact park anywhere.
2. Despite ticking the box at check in for a complimentary newspaper, none was delivered to our room the following morning.
3. At breakfast, we asked one of the waitresses who happened to be walking past our table about the need to sign the receipt despite having breakfast included in our room rate. I accidentally dropped my knife onto the ground while talking. She saw me reaching down to try and pick it up, and did not even attempt to pick it up for me or offer to replace it. The waitress assigned to our table was fantastic though.
4. The bathroom had a rusty tissue box holder.
5. The cups on the bathroom were made of metal with very sharp edges. Could have easily cut my lips.

The good points:
1. Great breakfast buffet selection with eggs cooked to order.
2. Complimentary bottled water in room.
3. Comfortable bed and pillows.
4. A very classy fountain in the lobby lounge.
5. Efficient check in and check out with friendly staff.
6. Quiet room.

Other than the service issues we experienced, it was a comfortable stay.

Took advantage of special summer rates and booked 2 nights at the end of December in a club room for $275.50 per night.

Bitterly disappointed with the standard of service and certainly not what we expected from a Hyatt hotel.

One simple word effectively summaries the standard of service - SLOPPY!

Waited 20 minutes to check in (3 staff on duty, but 2 staff, including the duty manager were dealing with a difficult customer).

Had to request a upgrade to a river view room (I have Hyatt Platinum status) after being allocated a street room, which was eventually granted.

In the elevator, the security access to the club floors was not working, which means anybody on some days could access these floors.

Club room was clean and tidy, adequate furniture and if one was working during there stay it would be very functional ( 2 desk chairs on either side of the desk, giving you the option of watching TV or looking out the window.

Interestingly there was no bath in the bathroom - only a shower.

Club lounge has not be renovated/updated - the furniture is old, the upholstery needs urgently replacing and the overall the lounge is looking very tired.

And the staff on duty during evening drinks were also looking tired, wearing unclean uniforms.

Some of the food available looked like it had come from that's day buffet lunch

Drinks are served by the staff - not help yourself.

Breakfast is basic continental fair - nothing exciting, but again service from staff was sloppy.

Asked for a pot of tea and was told to make it myself!

During our 2 day stay, we never saw a duty manager checking the lounge, especially during the breakfast/evening drinks times.

We had more poor experiences, which included:

  1. No daily newspaper delivered to the room
  2. English breakfast tea bags not available in the lounge because they had run out. Got several off the maids cart servicing the hotel rooms and left them in the lounge for other guests.
  3. The hot water from the coffee machine was not hot enough for tea.
  4. We were never asked for our room number and name, which meant we could of taken anybody into the lounge.
  5. When I asked for a tea strainer, was given a wire basket.
  6. The staff presentation continued to be poor, with poor attitude - one girl serving us, it was her first day and had received no training as yet, and she is working in the lounge!.

I have never been so please to check out of a hotel.

Would I recommend this hotel?

Definitely NO

PS One day we walked over to the Crown complex - what a transformation Packer has done.

If you live in Perth and have not recently visited this place, then you must ASAP, and try the mini wagyu beef hamburgers in Merrywell pub- they are excellent in taste and value.

We had our Christmas function at the Hyatt Perth Cafe and the smorgasbord for 34 worked out really well.
We don't do the Crown buffet as they do 2 sittings which is a bad joke. By the time you get 34 in and seated there would be too little time left so you would not get to circulate to get to everyone.
