Hi All,

I am considering flying a VA ticketed SQ operated flight to LHR in Y ( doing this instead of SQ ticketed to get my minimum "Eligible Sectors" for Velocity Gold).
I have no VA status, but I am NZ*GE. Do you think I will be able to access the Krisflyer Gold lounge as I am a *G flying on SQ metal?

Thanks for your help!

Cheers, MrMNJ

As is my understanding as I don't live in the *A universe, you'll be fine. As a VFF SG having just done 3 SQ sectors, *G & KF SG get pretty much instant recognition of their perks. VFF SG can have a bit of "Velo-WHAT?"
to deal with depending on the location or staff member.

I'd have no problem flying SQ again.

I believe if it's not on an SQ flight, you will have no access unfortunately. Is the VA code really cheaper than the SQ one?

Price for the VA ticketed flight is pretty much similar to the SQ ticketed ones, but I believe I need to have at least 4 sectors flown that are ticketed by VA (i.e. VA or DJ prefix)in order to qualify for Velocity Gold.

The only other flights I am doing this year are going to be EY in F, so wont be getting a VA prefix on those, but the status credits on those mean I will get to gold easily, but will fall short on the required 4 DJ/VA sectors.

Perhaps just some quick SYD-CBR flights or similar to top up your segments? Or call VA and ask about the lounge access (but as I mentioned, I don't think you'll have luck but can only ask!).

Lounge access rules for Star Alliance customers.

Customer must present proof of Star Alliance Gold level status via a valid frequent flyer program Star Alliance Gold level card or other valid indication of Star Alliance Gold level status
Customer must also present a boarding pass for travel on a Star Alliance flight departing from the local airport

As the Singapore flight is a star alliance flight you might get lucky even if its a VA code.

I know if i'm on a VA code on NZ I can't get into the SQ lounge on my *G membership, so I would not be surprised if SQ don't allow it also.

Thanks for the replies folks. I think I am going to take a conservative approach and assume SQ will turn me away at the door - at least I'll prepare myself for disappointment. I guess at Changi thats not so bad anyway- they still have showers etc and lots to do. (I was considering flying Royal Brunei to LHR to try out the 787, but the thought of hanging out at BSB airport for a couple of hours without a lounge...). If I book SQ directly, I'll just accrue more SCs to *G that I just don't need.

Sector's flown need to be on VA metal and not codeshares if my memory serves me correctly. There are threads around with people having almost 1000 SC's and no status as no VA metal flights.

Thanks for the heads-up Mogul,

I was worried about that, and have a mate who is in the same boat, but then came across this

What are Eligible Sectors?

It seems it includes "where Virgin Australia is the marketing carrier (this means that the flight number starts with a DJ or VA prefix)".

I'm confused.

Eligible sectors just need a VA flight number.

"Marketing Carrier" means the airline who's flight number you travel on.

The is represented by the flight number; for example: VA1234 is marketed by VA.

Yes they do, note though if you do get access to the Krisflyer Gold lounge there are no showers, so you need to use a pay facility anyway (IIRC about $9) if you want a shower! (Star golds do not get access to the better Silver Kris lounges that SQ operate - they are reserved for Business class pax and PPS club members.)

Unless you have PP which will get you access to Ambassador Lounge at opp end T3 to SKL - same level - or at top of escalator whichever way you approach.
