Gales across Sth Tas - up to 75km/hr at Hobart Airport. Departures now being cancelled and I would be surprised if there were any movements for remainder of day - or at least until later this evening.

Virgin 1324 had 2 goes at getting in, now flying back to MEL. QF1015 now on approach and Virgin 1534 holding to get in. I don't like either flights chances of getting in at present.

Cheers,

Boof

Departures being cancelled, LOL, the wind is almost straight down the centreline!

Slightly OT but gales in MEL are causing delays today. My QLink flight DPO - MEL today was delayed by about an hour, advised it was due to gale force winds and a runway change in MEL. I am gratefull it was not cancelled and my connection time wasn't too tight so I can still enjoy the QF J Lounge hospitality

Instead of LOL'ing, how about putting your famous "know it all" attitude aside for a moment and asking why?

Virgin 1324 had severe windshear warnings in the coughpit twice. One as low as 300 feet when they decided to go around and head back.

The storm front has seen requests to divert east of track, QF1015 almost 40NM from direct DPO to Clark. Winds in Hobart have been in excess of 100km/h.

However as I type this QF1015 just got in to HBA.

Regards,

Boof

Note I reference departures, which as I say are straight on the nose into the wind, not landings. If there is windshear its not referenced on the METAR nor is a SPECI on issue. Based on that info there is no real issue, as its a fact that wind is not a problem if its down the centreline, if there was a SPECI etc it would be a different story.

I'm sure you would be aware without arrivals in HBA there is no departures...

coughpit reports of windshear don't translate to SPECI being issued, and with current TAF showing PROB30 of thunderstorms from 04 to 07 with severe turbulence below 5000 I think that speaks for itself.
