Hi all
This is how it all began...........
We currently have 315000 Qantas FF points and would like to travel to Europe in August. Lo and behold we have searched the Qantas FF page and there is nothing available. The plan is to fly business class back from London(or Paris)using our points.
Any suggestions on how we can use these points to do a business class return from Europe. We have looked at booking on Emirates as they are offering a return economy from Melbourne to Paris for a total price of approx $4500 for the 2 of us. Could we book that and try to use our points for an upgrade?
Any help would be appreciated as we are novices at this points thing
Thank you in anticipation:?:

For MEL-Eu keep looking. Try MEL-DXB and then DXB-CDG, DXB-LGW, DXB-MAN and/or DXB-any city in UK/Europe as seperate tickets. Be flexible on route & date. Trains in UK & Eu go everywhere

No. QF points for an upgrade can only be used on a QF flight number on a QF aircraft. Not with other carriers or codeshares. Anyway QF points upgrade are very hard to get.:- a lottery

Thank you Mwenenzi
Excuse my ignorance but what is DXB-CDG, LGW or MAN.
Cheerio

They're airport codes for various airports, in this example Dubai, Charles de Gaulle, London Gatwick and Manchester respectively.

Another option is to look at using them on a One World partner such as Malaysian via Kuala Lumpur, calling the call centre is needed for this.

Thank you.
What does"claiming the call centre is needed for this"

Calling, not claiming.

You need to call the call centre in this situation.

Spot on, damn auto suggest.

BTW Travelling to CDG. Will be a lt cheaper than LHR thanks to the passenger tax the UK charges.

you could try something a little different - using your points to get to an asian gateway city and then taking advantage of the cheap fares in business class ex Asia.

for example - redeem 2 seats Melbourne to Singapore on Qantas in business class - return would be 120,000 per person (240,000 total for the two of you).

from singapore, buy a Sri Lankan airlines business class return ticket to Paris - should be around the $2000 mark, return, per person.

So your round-trip would cost 240,000 points (plus QF fees and charges) and $4000 for the paid tickets (and of course with Sri Lankan joining one world you'll earn points fr the SIN-CDG flights).

alternatively, Qatar airways often has good business class fares from Asia - some as low as $2000 ex Bali for example. Again, you could use your points to say fly Jetstar star class to Bali, then use a paid ticket from Bali (and earn points!)

your only other option would be to buy a one way fare to europe (you'd need to shop around for a good price) and then use your points outright for a trip home.

Is because QF awards on some partners are not possible on line (IT issues). Malaysian and at times Cathay

UK APD is only on departures and not arrivals

Which considering the cash add on fees/surcharges you pay with a QF award can be a very good option.

Travelling to CDG as a return ticket will be cheaper than a LHR return was the point in context with the OPs request.

They way I read post 1 is Tony Fa is only looking for London/Paris to MEL.

On a simple search for 14 Aug I can find many Business awards seats LHR to DXB on QF/EK/BA for 50,000 & £272.29 (GBP)
DXB MEL is hard

They are looking at a return, with MH via CDG that's a lot more doable in J both ways VS mixed class with QF. CX is also an option, I am sure most would take Asia Europe in J return VS a one way J via the Middle East when it comes to using points. The MH option has the added advantage of avoiding overnight flights back home sometimes.

Thank you everyone for all the suggestions. My Saturday will be taken up by doing the search for everything. Thanks again
