Hi,

I will be in Honolulu at the Hilton for a conference but then want some time somewhere else in Hawaii however I have been discovering that the resorts and accommodation in general are very expensive for what you seem to get in Hawaii.

Can people recommend accommodation in Hawaii that is more affordable? We would like it to be not too crowded, have a pool, walking to restaurants and activities.

The Fairmont Orchid resort on the Big Island looks ideal but is expensive also.

If can't find a moderate accommodation option then will go to an alternative conference in Europe and have a separate beach holiday in Broome Australia where you seem to get better value.

Thanks,
Dale.

The Aston Waikiki Banyan has a number of apartments you can rent some of which are available through www.vrbo.com - Vacation Rentals By Owner which was approximately USD130.00 per night. I have friends who often stay here because the parking is free which is rare in HNL as a lot of places charge US20.00 to US25.00 per day.

We stayed in this place Waikiki Vacation Rentals | Waikiki Rentals | Ilikai Hotel 1710 (booked through this website) July 2012, enjoyed it and would stay again (Part of the Ilikai Hotel but check in is direct to the room via a PIN number). I had reviewed it on Tripadvisor as well. It can accommodate 6 so it may cost a bit. So many apartments in Waikiki, I'm sure you'll find something. Wifi is free, no free parking though.

for anyone interested the Royal Hawaiian has special rates through Travelzoo (asia edition) for USD310 per night. Good 4 Jan to 31 May. (This is almost $150 off compared to discount sites such as booking.com)

Got stranded in HNL 2 weeks ago en route to DFW (airport was closed due to extreme weather), so made the most of the 32 hours I had and chose to stay at the Moana Surfrider (a Westin Hotel). The base room as fine, nothing overly special, but the Hotel was fantastic. Based right in the middle of everything on Waikiki Beach, beach front bar, what more could I ask for! :)
