Effective for tickets issued in Australia on/after 01 November 2013, for travel on/after 15 January 2014, infant fares will no longer incur a fuel surcharge on all Qantas marketed flights (flights with ‘QF’ flight number) across the entire Qantas international network.

Our customers will now enjoy consistency in booking Infant Fares, no matter the destination.

We regularly review our fuel surcharges policy and consider changes to the policy as appropriate.

Un-ticketed infant bookings made prior to 1 November 2013

Un-ticketed infant bookings made prior to 01 November 2013 will be reassessed and no fuel surcharge will apply to any tickets issued on/after 01 November 2013 for travel on/after 15 January 2014.

Ticketed infant bookings issued prior to 1 November 2013

Customers holding a ticket issued prior to 01 November, for travel prior to 15 January 2014, will incur the applicable infant fuel surcharge.

Customers holding a ticket issued prior to 01 November, for travel on/after 15 January 2014 may have their ticket re-issued if permitted within the fare conditions of the original purchased fare, and the fuel surcharge will be reassessed along with other taxes and surcharges during re-issue where applicable. Any residual amount may be refunded as per the Qantas International Ticket Reissue Policy. Any applicable fees will apply.

Pretty low profile announcement, kept pretty quiet probably because it is a bit of a sore point that fuel fines ever did apply to infants, and, as many others have said, fuel fines/surcharges have pretty pretty much nothing to do with the price of fuel anyway....

Yes it is a start.... Are Qantas likely to follow through removing fuel surcharges from all awards?

I was thinking today... If QF doesn't keep exempting these infants from fuel surcharges as they grow up, they will annoy an important demographic.
So expect fuel fines to be completely gone in circa 20 years. Haha
