It's a long way off, but it will be interesting to see if JL operates extra flights from SYD. My guess is that even if allowed under negotiated bilateral flight agreements, it still would not commence any direct flights from MEL (even if it had the spare metal).

Similarly, should QF International still be in existence in seven years' time (given its inability in recent years to make a profit), will it run some extra flights for the general public (not counting a flight or two each way for Australian Olympic Committee athletes, staff and associated hangers-on).

HND has further come into its own, although Japanese domestic flights face severe competition from what is among the world's best high speed train network. I never use internal air when in Japan as travelling by train is so reliable, comfortable, fast and scenic - beats sitting in an aluminium tin can any day!

Woo. I think I will see some of you there. Never been to an Olympics, nor to Japan in the Summer, so this may be a good opportunity to do both. Not that keen on 2016 Rio to be honest. Wonder if I'll be SPG plat or HH Diamond at the time...

The trains are also made of aluminum.

But I agree with the general principle. Who knows What I'll be doing then but I think it is a good result.

Later in the same year it'll also be Qantas' 100th birthday! So hopefully the fares wont be too bad ;) they might be generous.

Happy that it's nearer to our time zone. Won't need as much coffee to keep awake.

Will be interested to see what deals that will happen at the stage.
