As per 19AUG13 GDS timetable/inventory display, Malaysia Airlines revised planned Kuala Lumpur – Melbourne operation. From 21NOV13, the oneWorld member will add 3rd daily flight on this route, on board Airbus A330-300 aircraft. Reservation for the new flight is now open.

MH129 KUL1015 – 2110MEL 333 D
MH147 KUL1950 – 0645+1MEL 333 D
MH149 KUL2345 – 1030+1MEL 772 D

MH128 MEL0045 – 0605KUL 333 D
MH146 MEL0855 – 1415KUL 333 D
MH148 MEL1510 – 2010KUL 772 D

MH149/148 operates with A330-300 until 20NOV13 (KUL departure, and will change to 777-200ER from 21NOV13). MH in early-August 2013 planned to increase service from 14 to 16 weekly from Nov 2013 to Feb 2014, however reservation was not available at that time.

That is good news. When they pulled the extra two per week I didn't see much speculation that it was in order to move from 14 to 21 instead of 16 so this is a surprise.

I wonder if its a case of use it or lose it to Air Asia when it comes to rights, or a mix of that and showing the finger to QF re the Asian focus. Two day flights to come home on - love it!

You might want to edit the title of the thread - I nearly didn't read it. You have made a typo with MEL.

Good news indeed.

Dale.

MH has been doing quite well on MEL-KUL, its one of, if not the most profitable route to Australia, despite the competition from both D7 & EK.

MEL-KUL will increase to x6 Daily flights from NOV, which is quite impressive!

Am I reading this correct - MH 6 x daily flts MEL-KUL from NOV?

That's not impressive - that's unbelievable!

Its counting the returns, the route averages 57000 passengers a month which is more than Sydney !

Sorry I should have been clearer, x6 daily frequency including D7 & EK services. So MEL will receive x3 Daily from MH, x2 Daily from D7 and x1 from EK on the MEL-KUL route totalling to x6 daily services.

Yet QF dont consider it worthy of being a destination.....

That's a considerable amount of capacity on the 'laksa" route.

Good to see more international services for MEL. Must say that, given that I've never been, I didn't realise KUL was such a popular destination!

Yet QF dont consider it worthy of being a destination.....

I know that I'm just an outsider looking in, but it's just baffling that QF seem to not even bother with what are clearly popular routes. Surely they could at least take a punt on a once daily service.

It sometimes seem imagination, ambition and courage are a bit lacking at QF HQ, but maybe the bean counters have got it all sussed, or the dumbest reason, that they have run out of planes...

Nice to see more options to getting to KL, even hopping from SYD to MEL (and reverse) makes this a good option. For the life of me can't figure out why QF don't push to fly into KL.

I wonder what % of the passengers to KL are actually transiting to other destinations? MH Offers cheap fares through to India (another non-QF destination) - which is precisely what I'm doing with the family in November.

A lot of traffic to KUL is transit, especially to India (from Australia). I wonder if MH are even considering a 3rd flight to SYD or increasing capacity by bringing the A380 there instead. I hope they do!

Perhaps it would be fair to add to my previous post that I would also welcome VA putting on a MEL-KUL service.

But they have no onwards partners from KUL. I think they'd investigate SIN or HKG before KUL....

And they could codeshare with MH to other onwards SEA destinations solving their issues with partners in this region - not everyone wants to fly JQ!!
