Overall a good flight. Was on time. I tend to find BNE crew more friendly vs SYD based.
Return flight was a cookie cut of this same in same seat.

I must say I do like the seat.

SCs and points posted fine:

Hi nonpop thanks for the report, much appreciated. Which lounges did you visit? We are off to Vietnam via SIN in October for my birthday and I'd love to give my gf the best possible experience. Unfortunately I was unable to benefit from the recent upgrade window : (
However I'll make a request at check in.
Iv'e reviewed the SIN lounge thread but always appreciate recent experiences.

Used the BNE J & SIN lounge ... but only briefly as I was in a real hurry. The BNE lounge is very average and gets busy as it is small. The SIN lounge is an excellent improvement vs previous. So if you have access to it make good use of it. The lounges do make travel a bit special for SHMBO.

Try to get access to the Syd 1st Lounge as it is a great way to start the journey for international leisure travel.

Happy Birthday and safe and happy travels.

Must have been a while ago, I note the old J amentities.

June ... took the pics and just ran out of time to post them. I've had a few too many flights where I take the pics and never post them.
Most of my flights / pics I find are all same-same. But I was impressed by the seat 5 B / J for a solo traveller and intended to select it going forward. Have flown 5B now a few times to a few locations and I continue to love it. The extra space is very nice indeed (by your side) as well as leg room. Have the flight attendant sit in front has actually allowed me to spark up some interesting conversations especially about the EK tie up etc.

So trip report intent ... all about 5 B / J

Agree 5B is great, did it on 52 Thursday two weeks ago, shame about the breakfast.

shame about the breakfast.

Don't mention the war. That isn't a breakfast. I've just had to get to HKG & CTU again and have booked CX/KA vs QF/KA and took a couple of factors into account being MASA changes and food (namely breakfast). I like to get off the plane having eaten as I can then get on with my day. I also find too many carbs is less than ideal as I get older (I'd rather consume my calories from alcohol vs pastries).

On this config I've gone 5J before, it's great for a QF skybed. On 51/52 the config seems to vary occasionally, I've had a 4 class bird recently.

puppysparkes, you might not have much room to upgrade ex-BNE however definitely ex-SIN this is possible, I've posted the prices in a different thread, PM me if you can't find them ;)

I agree going via SYD on QF5 is the best, particularly if you're WP for the flounge.

I would disagree, QF5 is often operated by OJA OJC or OJI and its not an experience the F lounge makes up for.

I was assuming travelling in Y where IME there's little difference between the two configs, but in J definitely you're right. Just checked the recent history on QF5, I had no idea it was such a lottery and how lucky I've been.

There is a lot of difference in Y, different IFE, small screen, no in seat power and old tired seat foam.

Thanks for the report. I'm doing QF5 at the end of Sept and have 5B pegged out, after F lounge pig out. Return is on QF52 in 5J. Hoping the new configs hold, particularly for the return journey.

Good to see the review, as I'm taking this next month, connecting to BA to Europe.
I see the old amenity kit on the seat - but did you see if anyone asked for a sleeper suit (I understand not routinely offered on this day flight)?
I'm planning to bring one anyway, to keep clothes a bit fresher for the London trip to follow!
