Mrs Lime & self be in Hong Kong this October thinking might go to see Dubai for a week as the classic points fares are cheap out of there, would a week be to much?.

A week is a good amount I suspect, the malls would take at least two days alone, old world city tour another day!

5 days maybe but 7 days no way, IMHO of course.

I spent a couple of nights there recently and whilst I had a great time, I have absolutely no desire to return.

I go there quite often and I fully agree with your sentiments. Anyone wishing to go to that part of the world would be far better off going to Muscat. Much more interesting and original.

There's also the option of including a day or two in Abu Dhabi which isn't that much of a drive from Dubai. That would make a 7 day total stay just about right.

But, the drive can be quite hairy. So be careful.

5 days in Dubai should be sufficient. I was there last year to visit my brother who lives/works in that part of UAE. I managed to see all the highlights of city and drove myself in a rental car (with sat nav). The drive to Abu Dahbi is not a problem. cheers:) ...

The drive between the two is on freeway/divided road and was no problem for us (in taxi).

What was your experience Clifford and how long ago?

The roads are flat, fast & mostly safe.
The issue I often encountered was some women with their burqa veils evidently restricting their peripheral vision.. Especially when it came to changing lanes.

As opposed to Australia where the roads are hilly, poorly maintained, and the drivers are all looking at their mobile phones.
