Clive Palmer it was reported lost the plot after being requested to undergo a full body scan at BNE.

BILLIONAIRE Clive Palmer was banned from flying out of Brisbane Airport on Thursday night after he refused to undergo a full-body scan. The political aspirant who boasts his fledgling United Australia Party could see him in the Lodge by Christmas as Prime Minister had a "tantrum" before boarding an international flight, according to witnesses and ultimately refused to undergo the security check or board the flight.
But the businessman has hit back at Brisbane Airport accusing them of setting him up.
"What happened was I went through security initially to catch my private plane," he told the Sunday Mail.
But then for unexplained reasons Mr Palmer later decided to catch a domestic flight.

Maybe he thought once they wedged his obese frame into the machine he'd be stuck in there forever...

Sigh, if you have a medical reason that would cause issues at airport security screening, then most normal people are well prepared for that.

With all the radiation you get from flying closer to the sun and the amount of jet setting I assume he does, I wonder if he has put lead lining in his private plane to stop him getting cancer when he flies?

I'm hoping that we will see the palmer version of the spruce goose soon...

His doctor is shocking uninformed about radiation. The first question is which type of cancer did his wife have? Then, of course, the fact that the body scanners do not use ionising radiation, such as what affected people due to Chernobyl.

I don't understand why he had to go commercial instead of his private jet.

Right or wrong I'm glad he stood up to them for this. There are too many unknowns with this new tech and why would you take a risk when you don't need to?

Good on him!

Someone that size is worries about radiation? I think he has way more potential health concerns than that, starting with blood sugar and cholesterol.

Good on him for being ignorant? I don't think so. As I've said many times there are no quantifiable risks from the scanners in Australia. Or perhaps we should stop using talcum powder as well, if we're not going to take the risk.

Perhaps ironically also a radiation risk when he has to have some cardiac procedures carried out. Besides radiotherapy one area that could result in immediate radiation effects, especially for large people.

Radiation - Ha. He appears ill informed when it comes to science and nature. When will he ever learn that he is not above the law.

My guess is they kicked him out (banned him for the day) of the international terminal where his plane was located and so he had to fly from the domestic terminal.

I'd suggest that you might like to edit your post to remove the personal comments. They might prompt some sort of official action. (I'm not commenting about the validly of those comments either way)

Your right. I apologise if it came across too personal. Got a bit carried away I was laughing so much! Will fix it.

That's not the point. Many unpleasant things have no health risks - that's no reason to have an enema after every meal or to wear a crash helmet in a taxi.

My objections are threefold. First, the US has been forcing allied countries to install these expensive nudeoscope scanners and run a no-scan, no-fly regime - something they don't themselves enforce.

Second, the nudity. Yeah, sure, they say there are all sorts of safety features, but at some stage the raw image is that of a person without their clothes. There's the potential for abuse.

Third, I've gotten my routine down to stacking my metal bits in a tray and walking through the detector. That suits me fine. I prefer not to pirouette and flap my arms.

I opt out of these things in the US. Sure, it means I get a pat-down, but I figure I'm inconveniencing the TSA folk just as much as they are inconveniencing me, and if enough people follow my example then they will have to think of something else.

As for Clive Palmer, let's just say that if I had his money, I wouldn't be spending it on the sort of things he is.

I notice that none of your 3 points involved unsafe radiation exposure. That is my point. Object to these things for valid reasons not complete rubbish. To kick up a song and dance because it has the same risk rating as Johnson and Johnson's baby powder is a huge steaming pile of excrement that I will continue to call out as such.

The 3 reasons you give as well as the lack of an obvious improvement in security from these devices are good sensible reasons.

The comments didn't bother me at all. Just didn't want you to risk moderation.

His Jet (Or one of them ?) is has been parked at OOL for some time- it may be U/S.
I wonder when you depart from Platinum Aviation at OOL if you need to have a body scan ?

For someone that's such an overt patriot you'd think his jet at OOL, resplendent in the Australian flag would be registered in Australia rather than the Isle of Man.

Apparently it's a bit of a tax haven!

Some good images here. I wonder how many people will vote for someone who thinks so little of their own country?

How's he doing in the polls? He'll need somewhere well north of 30% to have a shot at making it onto the Treasury benches.

Who is Clive Palmer? Never heard of him. Seriously.

As for full body scans I will do everything possible to avoid/refuse one as well regardless of what the "experts" on AFF think.

What is wrong with a pat down? Body scan is going to make flying safer for everyone?
