Received a text to say my 9:05pm Jetstar fight was cancelled from AVV to SYD on Sat night at 5:15pm. Early enough but cutting it close. Next flight was 9am Sun morning. It would have been nice to get home Sat night but I quickly made alternate arrangements and stayed overnight at a friends house. I could have stayed at a hotel and Jetstar customer service said in a thick phillipine accent, that I was eligible for a reimbursement for a hotel Although I'm not too sure where a hotel is around in Avalon. It's only the second time I've flown out from there. Then I received an email at about 9pm and I received a flight voucher to the value of $100. Not bad!!!!

But...next morning flight was delayed 45mins so I ended up home at midday... the voucher softened the landing though.

Oh yeah. Anyone used those recharge stations at Avalon. You gotta pay for it!!! I had 39% on my smartphone, put 3 bucks in grudgingly (coz I had no choice) and 10mins later it gave me a grand total of 51%. Woohoo. never again

Not a great way to finish of a trip away.

Did you turn you phone off to recharge it and if not possible did you put the phone into flight mode???

no i didnt turn it off or put into flight mode... i didnt really think of it. Would it make much of a difference you reckon?

There is a motel at Corio, which if I recall may be infamous for playing host to a certain gentleman on a temporary 'get out of ...' permitted assignment with some presumably burly minders who used to wear light blue shirts but are now being fitted in a much darker blue (along with a specially invited 'lady friend') but other than that it's Werribee (one allegedly quite good and expensive - above A$100 - hotel that was once a Catholic seminary) or Geelong (a limited number of hotels but mostly motels), Footscray or CBD Melbourne (far more choice, but little or nothing for A$100 a night including breakfast).

I wouldnt be staying in the Corio/Norlane area myself, bit like staying at the fawkner ibis budget really, or worse. Would go to Geelong, mercure or similar.

The AVV was a one off. It was a last minute decision to go back to SYD on Sat. i just didnt want to pay $400 one way and AVV Jetstar was the only feasible option

Un measurable to be able to say it would put an extra 5 or 10% due to unknown qty of information as your phone could have been getting e mails the entire time.

I charge my phone off my laptop some days and it can take all day if it is nearly flat when I get to work and then e mails go crazy for many hours.

i probably had too high expectations of the recharge...just tried it then for the same time and it was the same increase.

Jetstar should have given you the option of a flight from MEL on Saturday night IMO.
