A couple of questions from an AAdvantage newbie

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

NB's question here

Could you use QFF points for upgrade these AA-miles QF flights?

Say from J to F, assuming there is a available seat.

Not on AA flights, I'd imagine but on QF metals ???

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

No. It's an AA award so AAdvantage rules apply. You can only upgrade with QFF points if on a ticket issued by QF.

No. QFF points can only be used to upgrade flights on QF metal (and QF flight number).

I'm not sure what you're asking about "AA-miles QF flights".

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

The issue is that you need to be in an "upgradable" fare class.

AAwards on QF flights are in award fare buckets (X,U,P) and are non-upgradeable.

Thank you, guys.

I know it is likely to be not possible but worth putting the question out for your confirmation anyway.

Still learning about this AA miles business :D

Watching now for the next miles sale event !

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

Just bought tickets for our December trip.Noticed for the first time a warning that the currency quoted was not in the currency of your credit cards country of issue. Now it might have been there before and I had not noticed but it does suggest AA is not unhappy accepting foreign cards online.
And as an aside buying an F ticket was cheaper than a YUPP.No brainer.

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

I've read this thread a couple of times and AAdvantage still confuses me. In particular when booking domestic Australian flights using AA miles. My understanding is that you can book Y return to pretty much anywhere in Aust or NZ for 20,000 miles (10k each way) and 35k in J return - MileSAAver?. Those flights would be on QF metal. Would those flights also earn QF status credits? Apologies if this has been answered before and I missed it.

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

Hi

May I ask a couple of questions to the resident AA gurus here ?

1) 50,000 points + 15,000 bonus for $1375

Is that the normal going rate or should I hold off for better bonus rate ?

I am not in a rush.

****

2) On the check out page, there is a "Federal Excise Tax" of USD103 and a "processing fee" of USD35.

That's par for the course or is that something that can be avoided ?

Thanks for your help.

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

There have been offers of a 50% bonus (where miles cost 1.83c) and a 30%bonus/plus 15% discount (miles at 1.8c) but there's no guarantee that they will return. The current offer is miles at 2.33c which is pretty reasonable. However for a cost of $US1513 you have a one-way J to Europe which is good value (particularly if you avoid the fuel surcharges on BA). I'm afraid you can't avoid the processing charge and tax.

Thanks for the info

As I am not in a rush and only after a good deal, I may hold out for the 50% bonus offer - whenever that may be :D

The corporate memory on AFF is nothing short of amazing.

Cheers

Re: Couple of AAdvantage questions from a newbie to it

I have just put on hold 2 x J flights LHR-BNE using QF10/QF604. Is it possible to add QF FF number so that I can select seats using 'my bookings' on QF website? The AA system won't accept my credit card online so I guess I need to call them to pay.

AA and QF use different booking systems so once it's ticketed you'll need to phone AA to get the QF reference. Then, call QF and ask them to put your QFF number in manually.

As for using a CC card to pay, search AFF for 'El Segundo', possibly even in this very thread. Failing that method, try adding a leading or following zero to your postcode when inputting it on the AA site. And another option is to call AA in the US and say you're having difficulty paying with a CC on their site. The right agent will process it for you without referring you to their Australian call centre where there is a hefty fee.

I suggest you get the booking ticketed before worrying about seating ...

I pay all the time using my Aussie Amex.Just putting a zero in front of the postcode on the cards billing address. You just have to make sure that it is an accepted zip.For QLD based pax it means a zip beginning 04 which is Maine.here is a list of Maine zips-
Maine ZIP Codes - Map, timezone, and shipping comparisons

I've done that with some QF J and F AAwards and over the phone, QF could not change the FF number.
I then read about the RJ website here and used that to successfully change the number using the QF PNR:
Royal Jordanian

Thanks for all the info. The 'QF reference' is the PNR? or something else?
