Like Ryan Bingham though, that's all very Up In The Air at the moment ;)

If they are, I better buy up. Now. :)

Not a case of if, but a case of when, its been confirmed that it will be 1 for 1.

what cards earn AA miles in Australia? I earn around 70k QFF points a month on credit card spend, so it might be worth my while to target AA miles instead of QFF points.

Diners club

The best are both Diners and Amex via SPG.When you move 20000 SPG points to AA you get a 5000 bonus.
This is how I got to LTP from LTG gold in ~ 18 months.Unfortunately CC points no longer count for life time status.

drron hit the nail on the head. Unfortunately this technique isn't as lucrative as it once was. In the past some of the AmEx promos made this a very easy way to earn AA miles.

Re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

After joining AFF last month, I have just changed my credit card to Qantas FFlyer Amex to earn point and pay more money for the annual fee (compared to free membership with the previous card). Now QF change policy and there are less chance I can enjoy the cheap flight with my point, what a shame !!!

Mr. Parker said there would be a one-to-one transfer of miles (one Dividend mile will equal one AAdvantage mile), swelling American’s program to more than 100 million members. So I had to ask: Will scoring an upgrade be more difficult?

People looking at alternatives would be advised to have a closer look at DM, the risk is when it will occur, and of course the $ is also a factor, if it continues going down then the current targeted 100% off many are getting will look cheap.

There is nothing to stop AA to "enhance" the redemption chart after merger with US though, eg everything is twice the miles required than before the merger.

Case in point, Delta program after merging with Northwest.

Only if you have an animal and most of my QFF mates don't.

One could always get a nice little cough... (Sorry I couldn't resist a little "Are you being served?" humour) ;)

I suspect AAdvantage (if that is what the merged program is called) will be next cab of the rank for 'enhancements'.

on what basis?? both us and aa have similarly priced awards. why would they all of a sudden race to increase them? they need the money now... not to scare pax off.

since the introduction of MASA's its a PITA when I want to book flights in the evenings... that and I'm also missing the slider :(

Only speculating.

- For redemptions on their own metal, AA has 2 redemption tiers, US has 4, can't imagine they'd stick with just 2
- Their award charts will need to be aligned, and I'd expect differences would be resolved in favour of the higher level
- For OW/partner awards, all the new members from US Air who previously had access to the larger pool of available Star Alliance seats, will now be added to the members from AA, all chasing the smaller number of OW award seats. They can leave the rates as they are, but their availability will be much lower.

Funny how this thread now has the second most likes of any thread in AFF history! Are you reading this QF and Red Roo?

What's harder to guage is how many people this thread has made less loyal to QF. I know for me the loss of cheap ASA's means I won't be crediting anything other than QF and OW flights to creep towards LTG (although how long before Lifetime Status is 'enhanced' is another question) and certainly will be exploring other airlines / programs more now that QFF is one step closer to a cash-equivalent discount program.

A good percentage of those 'likes' were for Red Roo's post assuring us that ASAs were here to stay.

And "hear to stay" they appear to be - sadly the PASA/UASA/ZASA/XASA types have become harder to book.

Don't give them any more bright ideas :!: :p
The Y-J and J-F upgrades along with the OW awards are the few remaining perks for the QFF who actually fly with their points ;)

They already do it though e.g. you can't upgrade on an international sale fare..

Re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

Although not earning SC's or FF points, would you say that upgrades from a cheap sale ticket is also taking profit away from Qantas...? Should these therefore be "enhanced" also since the points cost + ticket cost is significantly lower than a J ticket...?
You need to give me some examples so I can understand these better. Most times people need to pay for flexible tickets to be able to upgrade where as recently Qantas have allowed upgrades from any booking class.

Aren't upgrades for international flights processed at the last minute? You are potentially not taking away a revenue ticket from sale at T-12 months. So they are not really the same as Any Seat awards.
