This is the last post from me as some of the disgusting comments and sarcasm doesn't make it a welcome place to be.Not putting up with rubbish from some narrow minded people on here.

Where's the popcorn? :D

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

QF has finalised their decision on the ASA situation. From tomorrow 26th June when the new search engine is fully functional ASAs that contain the same inventory as classic awards being P, U, Z, X will NOT be available on Qantas.com - you will still be able to book these as ASAs but only through the call centre - you need to specify. QF did in fact want to remove the ASA completely but thanks to this thread saw the backlash it decided against it.

Before you ask the source, I have seen the internal staff memo on this like I had right from the beginning - so for the source all I can say is BOYA.

Had lots more info I could share which would've benefited a lot of people on here but the smug attitude of some makes it pointless. Not putting up with rubbish from some narrow minded people on here.

Will make it that bit harder to find some creative routes and timings.

Would also seem to make it more labour intensive for Qantas given their call centre staff will be tied up doing searches that are currently available on line.

I'm assuming that the telephone booking fee will also be charged. :(

If 747800intercon is correct then.....Yes that's right, let's make it as hard as possible for people to book flights with us...

QF logic

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

If that is the case that would be the most STUPID decision I have heard.

Remove the ability to allow people to do it online and force people to call a call centre (expensive for Qantas) every time.

Anyhow will wait to see what happens.

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

Can confirm what 7478intercon states is true - just called the premium desk and they said from tomorrow ASAs using classic award redemption levels and booking classes can only be handled by them and yes the award assisted fee will apply.

If you have seen the memo, why not take a picture and post it?

I find it strange that QF would want to get rid of a very good online feature and make people call up to book an ASA. Seems odd that Qantas would want to make extra work for themselves?

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

Well now it is apparently confirmed, well done Qantas.

I guess charging 3,500/6,000 pts or $35/$60 (dom,tt/intl) to people wishing to use their points is one way to gouge more out of QFF. And what about the unsuspecting members NOT part of AFF that try to book an ASA online? haha! Nice way to sting them for an extra couple hundred thousand points (or, more likely, fly another airline..)

What was that concept of loyalty again?

Nice to know if I wish to use my points I will probably have to stay on the phone for an hour trying to find the best xASA for my needs...

I admire your resilience in the face of what I agree has been some poor behaviour towards you. I do hope you stick around, even if you don't share anything else for a little while.

Ultimately, Qantas will win because of the $50-odd charge for phone bookings which is obviously significantly more than simple cost recovery plus a respectable margin.

<snip>QF did in fact want to remove the ASA completely but thanks to this thread saw the backlash it decided against it.

Wait a second, a multi-million dollar company did a partial back flip on obviously a strategic decision by not scrapping the decision altogether, but simply keeping moving the date back to arbitrary dates simply because of the power of a single thread where the main type of reply was "yeah right, like that'll ever happen". I won't pretend to know the inner mind of QF, but something tells me that if they are about to introduce a change (enhancement) which they know will annoy people, something tells me that they are already ready for the backlash, and one little internet thread is hardly going to change their mind.

That said, if that's the power of internet threads I'm going to start a new thread entitled "Qantas, you WILL provide harvyk plus as many traveling companions as he likes with a life times supply of free First Class flights"...

You start an obviously inflammatory thread, and then get surprised that people backlash against you when your predictions didn't come true?

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

Why would they make such a change ?
Any ideas as to how this would make them more money or increase their customer base ?

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

When everyone on this site makes a 2-hr call to Qantas without booking, that cost recovery won't exactly stack up.

To get more revenue from those who book these fares for a specific reason (SC running) and are apparently unlikely to change their behaviour due to having to call to book flights.

QF clearly believe that QFF is a lock-in program, which in a lot of respects it is. However they ought to be careful, as with numerous changes to credit card offerings in the past year or so, it appears to me that they may be starting to price themselves out of the market. Woe betide them if they devalue the entire program (which will surely happen eventually)

Really lol ? They will win ?

What makes you think that PAYING MORE MONEY and SPENDING MORE TIME will not cause them to lose customers ?
Qantas flights are already expensive and their redemption rates already poor and their taxes/surcharges a joke AND NOW I will have to spend YET MORE MONEY and EVEN MORE TIME to book an ASA. Then no thanks.

I'd rather get myself a status match, redeem the last of my points as Classics and then piss off to another airline/alliance.

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

I am not saying 747800intercon is not correct but the postraises more questions in my mind than it answers. If correct it really seems to me that QF are trying hard to seriously reduce their revenue stream to their own detriment.

Only time will tell.

One would think that they don't want to encourage the use of ASAs on classic award inventory. Presumably some sort of internalal financial modelling would be behind it (I somewhat imagine that in a company like Qantas, just about everything like this would be modelled to within an inch of its life)

Having to call to get the booking will be a pain, but I could have coped if there were still the tools around to look for the awards myself.

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

QF clearly believe that QFF is a lock-in program, which in a lot of respects it is.

Actually I beg to differ.
In these days of status matches and the ability to earn miles with other airlines on locally-available CC like Amex, I would say that it's far from a lock-in program.

For those who do alot of domestic travel I'm hearing alot of good things about the Velocity program.

From my point of view QF may be able to gain a little from this but are risking losing alot more.

re: [Confirmed] QF removing [cheap] ASAs [from web booking engine Jun 26-was]10April

Why wouldn't Qantas just stop releasing ASAs out of award inventory altogether if they don't want people to book them? The whole thing makes no sense at all.

Given that this is the THIRD time this rumour has been started up, and given the amount of back-peddling and dissembling the people pushing this rumour have done every time their predictions have turned out to be false, I for one am not holding my breath.

First time its been confirmed, did you miss that part?????

Perhaps a number of AFF's could call everyday to ask about ASA to tie up the lines... Then we will see how long before they bring back the option of booking an ASA online. ;)

Confirmed? Hasn't happened yet, the predicted date is still in the future.
