To all the newly-minted Platinum One frequent flyers out there... I'm curious to hear... what's been your experience so far?

Anything different?

Free upgrades?

... or all hype?

I am sure there will be a Easter mass being held within the lounge, for those heavy religious types ;)
Rather an Easter Sunday mass than a Good Friday service. A little bit more celebratory (for those inclined to observe such things). Not even any bloody wine on Good Fri! ;)

First time a QF F cabin has been full in how long? ;)

I know a MEL-LAX A380 one day this week was full in F. Have a rather ticked off friend who got a T-24 SMS confirming upgrade on points from J to F, and found out at checkin it had been reversed. Cabin was full. I think she's Life QP, maybe PS, not sure, def not WP or WP1. I also explained to her why she's never been able to see J to F upgrades on QF8. ;)

Is it just me? Or does the whole idea of being WP or WP 1 make for unrealistic expectations if and when flying in whY.
I know a lot of people make Plat through regular and possibly monotonous trips for work in the Y cabin.
But essentially this really means they are a budget frequent flier. If self funded then by choice or necessity. If funded by corporation then definitely a budget consideration (EG. FIFO) the FF status to me is designed to add on those little extras like extra luggage, lounge access and fast check in, to ease the pain of regular trips to airports. If extra benefits in the air is required then I suspect the best option is to buy or points/buy a J or F ticket.
I know that before discovering this site I was happy to accept my lot in life when flying. Now though , since discovering how status works, I have become a lounge snob, I disdain using the long queue for check in, and I get really miffed when the (customs and immigration) express lane arrives at exactly the same point (so why am I bothering? ) as the cattle class queue and I then see the resentment by some , as though I have "Pushed in" somehow.
Priority boarding seems to work on an ad hoc basis, leaving the whole Status ( on the ground ) experience sometimes a bit wanting.
So I have resolved to fly less, and fly as far forward as possible. This doesn't always work of course, and now that I have a WP card of my own I am hooked ......

I think being P/P1 and flying Y would have some of the most benefits... ie, if you're on a $100 ticket to ADL ex SYD (int) and you drink your tickets worth in a certain lounge......... Vs if you're flying F to LAX, you're going to be in that lounge anyway

+1

Plus your wallets are more swollen with extra CCs designed for different products (petrol = card 1, phone bills = card 2, QF flights = card 3, SQ trips = card 4.....);

You then became paid member of Expert Flyer to watch / guard seats!

You then have to remember 355 days in advance to reserve your JASA or SQ Suite Saver Suites.

Daily you scan AFF for tips and stories to further enhance your new virtuous cycle of wanting to fly at the pointy end on your preferred seats.

Had I heard of Emerald City before AFF? Never (in relation to aircraft anyway).

Now, I am 90 SCs away from WP and had booked for an AA run before my conference starts !!!

I think the inconsistency of service doesn't help and sets expectations at different levels. I had to make an unscheduled, unbudgeted, additional trip to the UK last week and it was in Y. The first leg out I had an op up to Y+ and the second longer leg I received exceptional customer service from a very good CSM and a very good crew. Nothing over the top but wine and snacks from J/F. It made me feel valued as a customer.

On the return journey I didn't see a CSM on either leg and received exactly what I paid for - a Y seat (albeit an exit row) and Y perfunctory service. I guess I can't really complain, but I have been conditioned, by previous higher service levels, to expect a little more.

Hopefully my J/F trip this week will be better!!

Trust you to use logic

I was booked CBR-SYD-BNE today, and when handing my card over at the J lounge entrance the lovely gentleman offered to put me on a direct CBR-BNE flight that would have got me home 35 minutes earlier (if not for BNE and the stupid 20 minute holding pattern). I'm assuming this was due to my P1 card, I've never had that offer before. Of course I'll be putting in for an original routing credit ;)

I recently booked the last flight out of a port as it was the only e-deal. I figured, if I arrive early enough they may move me ahead. Even more recently, that flight changes to be even later at night, and of course needs my confirmation. I knew it was a long shot, especially as the earlier flights were saver or above but I called up and they quite happily moved me to what would have been a more expensive flight.

To say I expected that is unrealistic, but I did think I had a better chance of it happening and am happy it did.

I'm not even a P1!

Of course I'll be putting in for an original routing credit ;)

I'm so glad you said that, I had no idea where you were going with that story :p

Curious if any WP1's have requalified for the next membership year that have received a welcome call again, or have gotten an automatic email letting you know your close to WP1?

Im 250sc's away from 2700 on QF metal, 3570 sc's total at the moment. I havent had the automatic email & wanted to know if I should expect a call in the next few weeks.

I got a "Continue enjoying the benefits of Platinum One" email in early April. (My year ends 31st July) I was on 3145 SC's with 2915 on QF.)

I requalifed in early May and am now past 4000 SC's. No further contact.

Would this imply that they are coming status or did you have a lot of forward bookings that they could see would tip you over?

The email came with a "Book Now" link and a "We look forward to welcoming you on board again soon". So I believe it was an "oi you! hurry up and spend some more money with us" email. I already had about 1600 SC's of travel booked before the end of my year. Pretty nonsensical really. When I received it others were getting the DSC offers so I assumed I would be getting an "incentive" to "Book Now" but I didn't. :( (I don't need DSC's I just feel unloved :( :()

The email did remind me that I needed to "earn a minimum 3600 SC's, with at least 2700 earned on Qantas marketed flights", plus a a note to view the "account details box" at the top of the email to find out how close I was to requalifying.

P1 is hit and miss, the contact is less important than the unpublished benefits for me. Some seem to get more than others and the benefits appear varied. When I eventually drop back to WP I will be sad :(, it has been good for me.

Just had an email from the lovely P1 team. Offered me a double pass to see P!NK at the Perth Arena 26th June, inlcluding a chance to meet P!NK during the interval. Am super excited & what a lovely gift from them.:D

Thanks QF

That is a pretty huge thing! Glad my wife doesn't read AFF - she would be wondering where her ticket was...

Not sure what the standard thing is but qualified for P1 (first time) about 6 weeks ago.

Haven't had a call welcoming or any other "special" treatment.

Bit of an anti climax.

Oh forgot the 2 bottles of wine were great from epicure were great.

Is something else supposed to happen??
