QantasLink today announced it will deploy larger aircraft and put on additional services on key routes in Queensland from 1 July, meeting the strong demand from Queensland communities and corporate customers.

The announcement includes:
Six additional return flights between Roma and Brisbane per week, increasing the number of seats on this route by 372 seats to 3174 seats.
Key services between Bundaberg and Brisbane upgraded to the faster, larger Q400 74 seat aircraft, which will add 144 seats per week.
An extra return flight between Longreach and Brisbane on Thursday’s, serviced by a Q300 50 seat aircraft, adding 100 seats per week.
QantasLink Executive Manager John Gissing said he was delighted QantasLink is increasing capacity and deploying larger aircraft in Bundaberg, Longreach and Roma.
“I’m delighted that we are once again increasing capacity on our Bundaberg, Longreach and Roma routes. We have proudly served the Bundaberg community for over 31 years and have exclusively served the Longreach and Roma community since 2001, and today’s announcement strengthens our commitment to these communities.
“Demand for services on these markets has grown significantly over the past few years and I’m pleased that we can step up to cater for the increased needs from these communities. Our diverse operations and fleet of aircraft mean that we have the flexibility to put on larger aircraft and increase capacity depending on the market conditions and demand from our corporate and leisure customers.
“QantasLink proudly supports regional communities in Queensland. We have increased our capacity in Queensland by 8% this year, which is great for local tourism and regional economies.
“We have also added an extra Bombardier Q400 to our fleet, bringing the total in the QantasLink fleet to 29. The Q400 is a state-of-the-art aircraft, with jet like speed, revolutionising travel and providing the highest levels of passenger comfort of any turbo prop in operation in regional Australia today,” said Mr Gissing.
QantasLink is Australia’s largest regional airline and operates a network of 56 metropolitan and country destinations across Australia as well as to Port Moresby.

They are actually adding more seats to the BNE-LRE route as the Monday and Friday services have switched to Q400's from the 300's.

As I said to ewing earlier today.... BNE-LRE on a Q300... No thanks!

I think more seats to LRE is a positive thing, the more people that have a chance to see and appreciate the Founders Museum the better.

Indeed, I am sure it is on the list of many here, myself included. Hopefully I find the time soon - it is a long haul (both time and $ wise) from Perth.

I really want to do an AFF event there... but need to talk to the museum and probably Qantas, especially considering how quickly cheap seats sell out.

Good luck - hopefully you manage it somehow. It would be very special & unique.

It's tentatively a goal for 2014.

Having been there 5 times and still trying to get through the literature on offer, I believe most would find it interesting, even if they're more interested in VA than QF.

I booked for August, but if another sale comes up for November, might book again for the AGM.

Make sure you make your way straight to the museum if it's a clear day and book a Platinum tour to do a wing walk and tour of the 747 and 707!

yeah definitely wanna do that. Ill blog about it later too.

I went there for 1 night. Did the QF museum etc. Don't see the need to go back for like a decade.. not a lot happening out there.

As for more seats, that's not really a fix for tourism. If the area was well marketed and had mass appeal, more people would go.

However, it's in the middle of no where, tiny country town, main attraction is a plane museum and a cattle station museum. That's like the opposite of mass appeal ;)

So you can understand why a tonne of people don't go there. Unless you're crazy like samh004!

yeah that's basically the only reason im going. will be a one off visit

Just so I don't sound like a terribly negative person, I really enjoyed my trip to Longreach, and would recommend people to go. But I'm not rushing back

I really enjoyed it. I did the plane tour (747 and 707) which is extra but worth it. Although I had a strange moment of why am I spending my spare time on a grounded plane when I spend so much of my time on flying ones. Still, enjoyed getting the change to walk around underneath them. Two beautiful birds.

Things do change, but slowly. If you went back every year you'd perhaps not notice as much as a bigger gap between visits. It's interesting to me, but realise it wont be to everyone, and I'm sure my Aspergers plays a big role in that ;)

But I know there are members here who haven't been that would like to go, like serfty I believe, so if a tour as a group of AFFers could be organised, I'm sure it'd be well subscribed, but probably would only happen once :p
