Lately when I have been travelling with my family I have taken out additional travel insurance even though I have paid with Amex Platinum which I know offers TI. I have mainly done this as we have been snowboarding/skiing and felt we needed the additional insurance (which unfortunately we did - broken wrist!).

We are travelling to the USA next month (no snow) and wondering if should just rely on the Amex Platinum for insurance or take out other insurance. I know lots of people who have had a really hard time claiming on the Amex insurance and have had to wait several months to receive reimbursement for claims.

Does anyone have any insight into travel insurance.
Thanks

I think in short- don't rely on the charge's horrible new insurance as it is vague at best and the staff are useless.

The lower, cheaper cards have clearer t+cs but in the US is one place I would buy additional cover!
