767-300 intl J

Hi all,

question for those in the Air NZ know.

I have to fly AKL-PVG in July in J
It says it's a 767-300 for the 11+ hour flight

I realise it's not a flatbed, and for a 2359 departure arriving at 0730 I'm going to need to sleep for at least 6-7 hours.

Given the quality of the "J" product am I better off booking 2 Y seats instead?

I have to take this flight due to arrival time in PVG and can't go via HKG on the trip7. :(

Advise on expectations and which way to go would be groovy.
 
I would avoid the 76 if i could - but in your case you can't. Not sure Y will be better if a full flight. What if you get stuck in one Y seat in a full plane?
 
We flew AKL-RAR on the 76. So only 4 hours.
It's pretty much like QF DOM J, but with a ton of legroom. I could just touch the seat in front with my toes if I stretched right out.
IFE was pretty good. Staff were amazing. Most friendly and generous service I've experienced.
Flight home on the 77 had the nice seats, but the staff hid in the galley most of the flight.

Despite what NZ may be saying at the moment, I expect that this flight will be undertaken by a 777-200. I have flown this route several times and it has always been a 777. I don't see how a 767 could make the schedule, but if it seemed that NZ would actually try a 767 on this route, I would change my reservation.

An NZ 767 on an 11 hour flight? It's not something you would want in any class.

I'm totally with you but its the only schedule for me that will work :(

When did you last fly it Clifford?

Its a bloody long way in a 767, out of curiosity what is the max range on the NZ birds? I wonder how close they fly to MTOW?

Are you saying that the 767 can't make the distance between the two?
 
It can certainly fly the distance.

Stick with an aisle business seat.

it's you're best chance st sleeping.

The pitch is pretty good and the seat does recline significantly, although the seat in front can recline as well.

I know the aisle vs window discussion has been done to death, but I'm curious as to why an aisle on this flight would be better than a window?

Also any experience as to the pick of the bunch seat wise on these birds?

Yes, there's no doubt the 767 can fly PVG-AKL, I just don't want to be on it. This change of a/c type is going to cost NZ IMHO.

So, I've completely revised my reservation to SIN (NH) - NRT (NZ) - AKL in C class. Got a nice window seat on the 777 NRT-AKL, so I should be able to sleep. Better connections too, and the NH lounges in NRT are much nicer than the lounges in PVG.

You would be aware that NRT-AKL, is a common route that the 772 gets swapped out for the 763
