Priority boarding on QF domestic - what is the story?

No point doing it in CBR.

As has been stated, half the aircraft will be eligible for it.

By that statistic, the last person on the premium boarding queue could still have their boarding time reduced by up to 50%.
 
Re self boarding, Lufthansa does it in Germany quite successfully.... If its implemented well I don't have an issue with it.
 
Complete fail today MEL-BNE and return. At both ends the premium lane was announced but in both cases there was only one person actually doing the boarding so of course both lanes ended up a huge mess as they merged. What's the point in having a separate lane without a separate person to run it?

Sounds like the 'new' priority boarding on these flights with a 738 will end up just like boarding a 734 with only one F/A.

It's similar to AA although even though AA start off with 2 gate agents doing boarding then after the initial flow of Premium pax, one goes back to the service counter.

I imagine there will be a lot of disgruntled pax in the general boarding lane who will be ticked off big time as they will perceive pax in the PB queue pushing in when they're in fact being called forward so definitely the potential for ground rage incidents.

I wonder if they'll call it Q-Board?

Wouldn't board-on-Q make more sense? I'ts more inline with the Wish-on-Q & Snack-on-Q themes.

im a domestic fa and as of 01May, 4 crew will operate on the 737-800 fleet for all "medium" services during AM/Lunch/PM refreshment services. Medium being your Mel/Bne Syd/Adl etc.
This will mean 1 fa boarding the entire flight
Please, and this goes for all reading, it would be great if you provide feedback as crew aren't thrilled with this either.
Remember, this only applies to medium length sectors

On the subject of premium boarding, we are also going to be trialling g a "self boarding" gate at Gate 2 Sydney T3
Will be interesting to see how this goes to say the least!

I could have easily self boarded yesterday, no staff member there, but the scanner was turned on. Gate 7 SYD T3. Only hassle might been ripping off the docket. The only real issue with single staff member boarding is that many don't seem to realise that they can actually process 2 lanes. But with my experience yesterday the gate agent clearly called J/WP/WP1 to use the premium boarding lane.
 
Priority boarding didn't work at MEL today, gate 6 for a 738 to BNE. The poster was up and the sign was up, but there was only one FA scanning (an she was doing so on the regular side). Of course, no special announcements either. It seemed a few people were also looking around wondering if priority boarding was going to materialise. It didn't.

This must be due to the reduction by one FA on 737s that I think I read about or was I imagining things?

That was me who posted that - no you are not imagining anything. They are still meant to have 2 lines but process priority pax first is what the CSM ended up telling me.
 
It actually worked ok tonight at Gate 7 SYD T3. Only one FA scanning, but they started on the premium line first. Announcement made that the business and platinum would be boarded first. Regular line people got a bit pushy, but the couple of people at the head of the premium line just cut them off. CSM then appeared and started scanning on the other side, so I assume the premium line then went with that.

The incoming flight was also delayed, so that is a good sign as a delay usually means a boarding mess.

Flew SYD-MEL on Tuesday. (738 with 2 people scanning) Boarded mid way through. Used the general line as I was still PS.. As I got to the scanner the guy on the priority scanner signalled me across. There was a person walking down priority line so I did the right thing and waited for them to scan first.. Noticed later on that she was PS too! FA made no comment to her.

The only way I see this problem being solved is by group boarding like AA. No matter how much enforcement QF does golds, silvers an QC members all expect some extra treatment.. This would be cheaper than having extra ground staff enforcing the current rule.. As it only requires a number printed on the BP and a few extra announcements.

I think it's fair that other FF are allowed to board before all the NB's as they too are showing loyalty to QF. If QF does decide to adjust the current policy? Then when boarding commences the agents should be scanning through all priority passengers that are waiting before commencing general boarding!

Flying with AA last week a lot of the flights had one agent scanning. Who was always keeping an eye out for priority passengers that line up later on and was also making the announcements over the PA at the same time!!

redroo surely with all this feedback in this thread it wouldn't be hard to fix the failings!!

Many have observed that AA do a good job with priority boarding. This may be due to more of a cultural awareness in the US that only those entitled to it, can use it.

Has anyone observed what AA crew do if someone tries to use priority boarding when they shouldn't be? I've not heard of one instance of QF stopping a passenger and advising that passenger they need to line up in the general queue. I daresay the FA's may be reluctant to do so because they then have to deal with that passenger on the flight too.

A couple of flights on AA I waited a side and watched the agents.. They were very strict and anyone that wasn't entitled was moved over to the side or sent back out the way! Even when a flight was delayed and the general line was very pushy they held their ground!
