On board recognition - who gets any?

On boarding (seated in Row 1 in J) I stopped to put my bag in the overhead and the economy passenger behind me found it appropriate to just about push me over to get past. The cabin crew member serving the J cabin announced loudly to me "could you hurry up so everyone else can get on".

Hmm, it's not that hard to stand to and out of the way while stowing your bag in J on VA. If you were actually blocking *everyone else* for long enough to make it an issue you were doing it wrong.

That's almost the opposite to my experiences of J with VA. a number of times they've either stop boarding entirely for me to stow luggage or the crew have stowed the carry on for me.
This is fairly typical of my experience too, on a B737. Sometimes on landing my bag is also retrieved for me, before I even have a chance to stand up.

I always sit myself down and wait for the crew to come along and take my bags when in J

Really! And they always do it with a smile. I usually only carry a backpack and jacket, and I only do this when in J

Yep and my first couple of flights when business was introduced I was specifically told to sit down and they would stow my carry on bags for me. I do however prefer to do that myself for a couple of in interesting reasons.

My last VA J flight turned me right off it (and I have pretty much moved back to QF I hate to say). Crew disinterested, however one could say I got a little recognition... After checking the manifest and, I'd assume, seeing Platinum he later gave a very half-coughd "sorry about the scrum during boarding". I guess that counts as recognition!

Qantas, while not perfect, have the business game fairly well sorted out. There are a few too many LCC minds at Virgin.

My experience has been like Medhead when in J, crew more than happy to look after my luggage if boarding is a bit hectic.

All class :!:

No, I may struggle with some things in life, but placing a bag in a locker is something I can manage :D. Simply a rude crew who clearly realised they overstepped the line (otherwise I wouldn't have gotten an "apology").

I would feel really bad just dropping my bag on the floor to then take a seat and watch other passengers step over my bag while I waited for the crew to put it away for me....

I was quite impressed with the onboard recognition received as just gold with VA. After a number of years of up and down status with Qantas I don't recall anything even remotely like the kind of onboard personal recognition I received with VA. And! As a bonus, the hostess called me by my proper title as opposed to my first name, something Qantas was never once able to muster despite countless "Sirs" and "Mr so & so" passing their lips. Major gripe!:p

I'm currently just a pleb Red (hopefully not for much longer), so I don't have anything to expect recognition for. So I've been very pleasantly surprised to have been greeted with "Welcome back, Mr C" on a couple of occasions boarding VA flights over the past year or so. It's a fantastic touch, and one I've never come within miles of on QF.

Currently onboard VA213 to ADL, got a lovely good morning Mr Le, row 4 and welcome back. Saw some pleb store his luggage into row 2 and walk to the back of the plane, another pleb hung his coat in the J cabin and also walked to the back. Maybe if I efficiently sit and sleep in one of the J seat then the FA's won't mind. Row 3 FED is full of hawks coaches/ whatever they are.

FA offering newspapers to row 7 with her allocation and status sheet.

It wasn't a situation of dumping the bag in the aisle but on the floor near your seat. It is rather impractical so I usually just put my own luggage up, even if that is something I struggle to do.

I had two flights yesterday.. It was mixed results.. First flight, I got no special welcome when boarding, but when seated and most pax were on board, the FA later came and offered me a paper by name. The others around me (I was in 3A) did not get the same offer.. That was nice..

Coming back, nothing.. Its nice when you get it, but it is not the end of the world if they don't..

I do find the service hit and miss also..

Ignoring the recognition bit, the offering of newspapers is (as a general rule) a morning thing. They usually don't bother after middayish which is probably understandable.

When I first received a status match to Gold back in the Virgin Blue days I got "welcome back mr drewbles" on my first flight. I had previously flown them twice, in the early 2000's ;)

Well, to report back. Got offered a newspaper by name on Monday morning as did a couple of others in the Y cabin. Appreciated the offer, even if I''ve switched over to press reader. I was also given a breakfast wrap and a biscuit again by name. I wasn't sure if this was due to status or a flexi meal by mistake. A little while latter I mentioned that I wasn't expecting to get the wrap. To which the FA said they made a mistake but I could keep it. So I'm not sure if it's the start of a status thing or not. Certainly not free flowing bundy and cokes but appreciated all the same.

BTW the wrap confirmed my preferance for saver fares. ;)

Flew BOS-JFK-MIA-SJU today, On the MIA-SJU leg the purser had a list and greeted all of the Emerald level pax in J (highest cabin on this plane). He also took dinner orders ensuring status pax got their first choice.

He was quite genuine about thanking us for flying AA.

Another pax tried to give his dinner order and was told it would be collected later. The pax was told that dinner orders were being done for EXPLT (OWE) then PLT then others.

Did you happen to mistake this for the QF forum?:cool:
