JASA cash upgrade to FASA

I did this a couple months back. Had a JASA booked from SIN-MEL (via SYD) in A380. Changed it to the next day, A380 direct to MEL in F for a $190 SGD 'fare difference'.

Bargain.

Where do you find the change flight option? I have a JASA and cannot find this feature anywhere. Furthermore, upon enquiry with QF I am told the cash difference to upgrade to First is a mere $12k for my SYD-LAX leg. I realize this has do with different business fare types, but how on earth could you get away with a hundred dollars for a cash upgrade??

I upgraded a PE ASA to a JASA for a flight in November. I had to ring QF to do it (and pay the miserable $80 per pax fee) but the actual fare difference was only $360 pp. I believe it's only possible where the fare originally booked is in a fare class that can also be booked as a classic award (i.e. X,Z,U or P). In my case, it was booked in Z and U was available so fare difference was minimal.

I also think that whether you can do it online depends on the route. For example, a lot of ex-SIN bookings show business and first on the same page. IMHO, ex-AUS bookings rarely do.

Looks like it doesn't work unless there is F being sold on the route. I have BNE-SIN booked, but all available changes is only in J.

Kind of obvious you cannot change to F if there is no F :)

Manage My Booking > Change Flights

I tried this, but it only has Business listed there, (I have a booking with mum, dad and myself going CBR-SYD-LAX).

Maybe its because the CBR-SYD Leg exists in the booking, not sure

Upgraded a JASA to a FASA MEL - LHR for both myself and my wife using cash. When I was booking the JASA there was also FASAs available for 2 people around the date I was looking at so I decided to book the JASA and try to upgrade to a FASA. Change Flights only showed Business flights and when I looked at Upgrade said it was not eligible for upgrade. Spoke to a very nice person at Qantas who knew exactly what I was trying to do and organised the upgrade for me. When asked why I did not have the option in Change Flights he thought there might have been a glitch in the system.

What was the cost per person for the upgrade?

Also, can you request the upgrade immediately? IE Book the JASA and then log into your booking/call QF and upgrade straight away?

A little help if you can AFF's: My situation is this: booked a JASA PER-MEL-HKG this morning. Have since checked EF and the booking classes I need to attempt one of these JASA upgrades are showing, except ex-SYD. Now, what's everyone's opinion as to whether QF call centre will change my JASA so I can fly PER-SYD-HKG and then release an award seat (I'm WP) therefore making my SYD-HKG leg a FASA (with associated costs of course).

My current JASA is booked into U class as Business Saver Fare.

Is it even worth the call?

Sorry - New to AFF, especially the abbreviations. Can someone explain JASA / FASA

Cost was $570 per person. I contacted Qantas 1 or 2 days after making the JASA booking. I was after a FASA but did not want to use 384K FFP and also wanted to see how this worked. So booked a fully refundable JASA where there was already a cheap FASA showing. Then I went to Change Flight to see what flight options came up. Only contacted Qantas due to no First flights shown. The FASA was booked into P and fully refundable.

I tried this on one of my HK trips coming up in June and they couldnt do it, i even got them to release a seat for award booking but they couldnt do it.. maybe i got someone who couldnt think outside the box...
