Now Qantas is allies with Emirates- and seems more London-centred than ever before!

Re: Now Qantas is allies with Emirates- and seems more London-centred than ever befor

The point of the alliance is to give people more options to fly a QF flight number that QF does not have to pay empty seats for, and to also capture inbound traffic. You don't often see a sale on Codeshares when there is not one done by the carrier whose metal is actually operating the flight.

Slightly off topic but another wrinkle in this tie up.

Markis10 - or anyone else, of course - any advice at all to offer for booking with a QF flight number, through EK, for a one-way F ticket, LHR-DXB, DXB-MEL? Price difference between QF and EK bookings is huge.

Detail in post 2137 in thread at:

Do I give up on this one?

Granted, but they are managing to do it for Economy fares, on this occasion. Not J, which I think was the OPs main beef .

Hmmm... I see on the EK site they are offering 'special' J fares to a couple of European destinations, but fewer than for Y. Not sure if 'special' = 'sale' though.

Hmmm again .... these J specials are being offered from ADL (Paris, Rome, Madrid, Frankfurt) but from no other Australian ports. No QF J sale fares to Europe (except LHR) from ADL.

A clue as to the lack of J generally might be found in pagingjoan's post 2137 : . and in particular this part of a call to QF:

Rang back and after several long periods on hold, was told that it was an issue of fares in Premium cabins not yet being "aligned", although Economy fares had been, and that the fare for the routing that I wanted was "not at the cheapest rate". When pressed, he told me that the one way fare, which had "not yet been aligned", was something over $15,000.

So there's a gentle sh** fight behind the scenes on how much to charge J and F pax. Presumably EK doesn't want its product/brand de-valued by QF offering cheap premium seats on its metal (I was going to say 'pointy end', but that doesn't apply of course ;) )

Red Roo, we know you've been lurking (and commenting quite liberally :D ) this week - any comment on when premium fares might be 'aligned' ?

Re: Now Qantas is allies with Emirates- and seems more London-centred than ever befor

Well- that's what I was expecting, not much difference at all! The advertised special fare of 6999 SYD-LHR-SYD is available on almost any date in October and November. Actually- even over the Xmas holidays, surprising my mom with an unexpected visit would indeed entice me to make a booking if it was available to elsewhere in Europe...

I'll go you one better - that "I" class fare is not even available ex-Brisbane. That's why I was seeing $9k. Just checked E/F and sure enough, SYD-LON has "I" class for $5772 plus taxes whereas the cheapest BNE fare is $8090 plus taxes in "D". I class fare rules indicate travel must be on QF 1 or 9 or 2 and 10. Still, weird that the fare doesn't just price you via SYD or MEL if departing from BNE.

As posted up thread, alignment for premium cabins was achieved early this week for Europe, that does not mean there will be sale fares though.

But only TO Europe, apparently.

I'm keeping my hopes up that in future sales, those locations might be included and it's more a technical issue for now after all. As someone else just said- they manage to do it for Economy, strangely.
