I dont travel AA very often (once every 2-3 yrs). Is there a way I can earn a few points every year to hold onto my current points. No point losing them for nothing?

Signing up for www.points.com used to be good for a once only 100 AA miles. No idea if it still is
Putting 1 eligible QF flight to AA will work. Just make sure its an eligible fare bucket. Or a rental car

You just need to have some earning or redeeming activity on your account to extend the expiry date of your miles by another 18 months; there are a whole bunch of ways to do this, some for cheap or even free.

I'm not sure if 100 miles for signing up to points.com which Mwenenzi mentioned still works, but AA often have promotions on FaceBook where they gift some miles for liking something or filling out a survey. You can get 250 miles for signing up for e-Rewards if you have a US or Canadian address: e-Rewards | AA.com

You could also buy some miles, transfer miles to someone else (or have someone transfer them to you), transfer miles to or from another loyalty program (a hotel program, or a another FF program through points.com perhaps?), buy something through their shopping portal (https://www.aadvantageeshopping.com), or credit them through one of their earning partners (rental car or hotel?)...

regardless of whether points.com signup bonus works it is certainly still a good way to trsnafer small amounts of points between accounts to restart the expiry clock and keep them open, have done this many times with just 1 point being transferred.

The eRewards mentioned also works for Velocity, but can be useful for AA when trying extend the life of pts. The time taken to do surveys is well, time consuming.

Also, be aware that the points need to be transferred in blocks which can take quite a time to build up for eg the Veloicity surveys - not sure about AA though.

There's also HH, Priority Rewards etc etc.

Look out for the Promos (reported on AFF) and buy some miles?
