Damn you cant see that image! It was the QFF points calculator saying the MEL-OOL route is served by Jetstar. But do a booking as per AstroDamo and you get as he said. In fact, MEL-SYD-OOL in Business is $549 for 80 SC. That sounds more convenient than doing SYD-AKL! Thanks AstroDamo!

Thats $6.86 / SC .....thats a winner, sounds like to me!

I just booked my first real status run, within the time constraints I had (Single days only, no overnights) before May 31. If all flights go to plan, I'll be Platinum by the 17th May :D Unfortunately it'll only last a year, probably return to Gold the following year unless some outstanding opportunities come up (I'm 100% self funded), but I'm very pleased all the same.

Will nett 355 SC (11165 pts plus approx 4752 pts from the CC purchases) from $2112 ($5.95 / SC) plus 38000 pts spent (and a couple of small CC fees). To me that's great value (the return on QFF pts is a little low, but I'm after the status this time)!

Both runs (2 separate days a month apart) are SYD-ADL-SYD-OOL-SYD (all in Business except 1 SYD-ADL sector)
The outstanding fare in that lot was ADL-SYD-OOL in Business which was $600 for 100 SC and 2882 pts

Anyway....I'm grinning ear to ear, and I'm about to get an extra hour back from daylight savings...shame I gotta work tomorrow (Sunday)...

Guys I'm looking at the MEL-(via SYD)-OOL flights and the earliest I will arrive at OOL (on an all-Qantas service) is 13:10.
The next flight back to MEL leaves at 13:50.

Do you think I'd make it ?

I know its cutting it a bit fine. But I'd have no checked in bags (maybe even no carry-on!) and would have already checked in the night before.

If not then I hope there's no time limit for how long I can stay in the lounge !

Coz the next fully Qantas flight leaves at 18:40 and arrives in MEL at almost midnight...
Five hours is a long time to just kick back

Seeing it's the same plane, you'll make it easily :P

Its the same for an ASP run on the same day - same plane SYD-ASP there and back.
The only drama would be admitting the status run to the cabin crew or think up a fancy story!

That's my favourite run to be honest! I actually have one booked for June just to ensure that I easily retain my status

Haha.
Ha. Hmmmmm.
Got any good stories for me to use ?
They can't really do anything though can they ?
Can you just say you wanted to make Gold for the first time and your calendar is about to end ?
Or change clothes, wear a cap, etc ? Lol.

And to make it worse the J class is tiny on those winglets ! So no way I can go unrecognised

The staff do not care about why you are flying, sure they will ask if you haven't already told them!

If anything, I would say having the same person on the return flight is easier as the crew already know you, and know what drink you like and don't need to go through the "introduction/getting to know you" phase again!

Hahaha I had the same thought until I realised as AstroDamo said...its the same plane LOL

But question for me is do I choose the same seat...and if I do, will it still be warm LOL :D

Haha awesome.
Haven't done a status run before so just a tad excited !

Thats easy, just sit there with a clip board and a stack of sheets with a whole lot of check boxes and comments boxes.
if the crew asks tell them you are doing a random evaluation on them ;)

Yep it's a fun way to spend a day, not many people understand why I would do it, nor enjoy it. I can think of far worse ways to spend a day than flying around, enjoying some food and wine and maintaining/earning a higher status with an airline.

The crew for me were great on both trips, in fact, some of the best domestic QF crew I have ever had.
