Yeah, that's what I thought too.
QF is peddling $11K fares via DXB to LHR for September this year. Given you can fly F on EK for around the same $ on the same sectors, what gives? When can we expect some pricing rationalisation to occur with this JV, or does QF expect me to fly to SYD or MEL so I can jump on QF metal to head to Europe?

Any wise souls out there have any ideas on when we can expect a JV celebration 'sale' :?:

Thanks fruitcake- has there been an official announcement?

Sorry, was going to pad that out but I hit the button a bit early.

Nearly every news story about the alliance had a phrase from a QF spokesperson to the effect of "fare alignment will occur next week."

news.com.au on 31 March said:
Qantas spokesman Andrew McGinnes said the price of flights would move in line this week.

"Qantas and Emirates are in the process of aligning fares in the Australian market, which we expect will happen within the next week," he said.

...and Aus BT just retweeted:

AusBT / Twitter said:
RT @travel_daily: @QantasAirways and #Emirates will tomorrow release new joint fares for sale in Australia, affecting long/mid-haul sectors.

Great find- thanks Fruitcake!
I hope the fares are something to get exited about...

Yeah lets hope its not of case of them going up but of coming down... But what are the chances???

For that QF J fare i think i would buy award miles and do 4 J trips or 3 F trips myself...

Even though fares align tomorrow, I'd imagine there will also be a sale on fares at some point soon...

The potential for a big sale is what many of us are waiting for I would think. What are the chances of it happening before the 18th April, when the final determination is due to come into force..???

Well, it is good news, no sale announced as of yet, but the same flights which I was previously pricing up at the bargain basement price of ~$11000 are now ~$8700 post 'price-alignment' on QF website. Haven't checked EK yet...

I'm seeing no "co-ordination".

I'm looking for MEL-LHR-MEL in J out mid April, back early May. The cheapest I can see on the QF website it $9,814; the cheapest on EK is $8,331.

Emirates.com is exclusively EK flights, QF.com is a mix (with the cheapest option offered being Gatwick/Dubai on the return despite specifically requesting Heathrow).

Still, CX, MH, JL etc are coming in much cheaper. Remind me again ... this alliance allows QF to compete against whom exactly??

Regards,

BD

$12,000 MEL-LHR for J in November/December. What a JOKE.

Taking my business elsewhere...again.

(and I don't want to travel through Dubai anyway)

Well there isn't joint pricing yet for j to lhr.

antas and Emirates have coordinated tariffs and fare conditions for sale and travel from 5 April 2013 on the following routes:

Australia to the United Kingdom (Economy Cabin only);
Australia to Europe (Economy Cabin only);
Australia to the Middle East (all Cabins); and
Australia to Bangkok (all Cabins).

When they get the others sorted, perhaps they will be more competitive against other carriers. Who knows.
