Just tried to reload my Load&Go card with postbillpay with my Citibank visa card. Entered the 'verified by visa' one time password that was smsed to my mobile yet the payment was declined. Tried one more time to no avail so rang Citibank and was told that a temporary hold was placed on the card due to suspicious transactions being my postbillpay payment .

So if you get your Citibank credit card stolen along with your mobile, rest assure that the Citibank security team will be there to prevent the thief from paying any bills with your Citibank credit card.

Our 2 cards have stopped working about 6 times in the last couple of years. I have avoided doing that SMS thingy and I am still ok logging on the old way. There have been no recent stoppages and now I call them only to switch Citi Rewards points and that works great. These 2 cards are still my favourites and we are pretty stoked with the results.

Citi are extremely touchy on overseas usage lately.
Booked in January some European hotels for July with one requiring a deposit. Citi immediately phoned my mobile to verify the transaction.
Made a booking today on Agoda for Koh Samui for NY's and then went of to golf. Doing some grocery shopping on the way home, the card had already been stopped with a message left on the home number and no attempt having been made to ring my mobile.
Politely told the apologetic Citi lady that surely a call to all of my contact numbers would be more appropriate before stopping everything or even a purchase value limit until the matter is resolved.

Was told on friday that there's a permanent block on the load&go card and every time I want to load any money on it I'll need to ring them to unblock it for 24 hours. The reason was due to high security risk of the go&load card
Very annoying

Anchew isn't talking about the SMS for logging into Internet banking cove, he's talking about the Verified by Visa authentication, which is different and happens on a transaction by transaction basis. Citi obviously give Visa your mobile number for it to work.

That used to be a problem as they had entered a wrong mobile number for me. They did ring Mrscove once on her mobile for my account so she gave them my correct number. Often I spend quite a bit on the Citi card so I am not looking forward to messages when I am travelling somewhere overseas.

I have had Citi cards since 2004 and they have always worked when I have been in two places at the same time. Me thinks Buckley's chance of this being permitted in future.
Might have to get all the EOM's and stat payments done early before the next travel.

Had to call Citi this morning to remove a block on an Amazon transaction of less than $300. No attempt had been made to call me either! For some reason they only blocked 1 out of the 3 Amazon purchases I'd made that night.

And this was after I'd put through $10,000 worth of overseas purchases in less than a week. Strange.

Well particularly if you are like me and pick up a sim card in your destination to avoid the ridiculous roaming fees!

When we went to NYC in January, both my card and Mrs Korda's card (Separate account) were put on hold. Pretty annoying spending 20 minutes each calling in from NYC to get the card's unblocked.
Citi call centre staff advised us that in future we alert them if we intend to make foreign purchases before we go on our trip.

I've got into the habit of doing this now, no bad expereinces but have read of enough to make it a worthwhile pre-caution.

You should do this for ALL cards before you go on any international trip, and not just Citibank. Being overseas is not when you want to get your card put on hold while they check.

We also do it for our Bank ATM cards in case we have to use them as back-up.

None too cheap making the phone call either!

We still use the Telstra calling card system to call home as it has been great sound quality and reasonably priced. They are dumping the system later this year so we are getting used to using T mobile on our US cell phone where for $50 a month you can call Australian fixed lines for free.

I do this through Internet banking messaging where I can... Copy and paste the same message into each. 28 degrees you have to call, but they have a phone option specifically for this (say 'I'm travelling soon") which has it all dealt with in less than 1 minute on the phone.

How do you advise Citibank of travel online? I know you can do it for ANZ but didn't know you could do it on Citibank too.
