QF/EK FF benefits revealed

The issue with that is that the CTA arrangement for passport-free travel only applies to British and Irish citizens. So while those citizens are not required to have a passport to enter either country, immigration officers do have to be satisfied that they are entitled to entry - which means that ID effectively still needs to be shown. More information here: Common Travel Area - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I understand the reason, but what is odd is how going in different directions you get treated differently. Again I know the reason (which is the Irish are being stricter), just odd.

I prefer the weight limit rather than bag limit.

Makes it harder for elderly and some females.

I know my partner struggled with a full bag at 32KG's lifting it in and out of the car before she gets to the airport.

The weight system is a little easier, however if you're a high tier member traveling in premium classes, you are worse off as has been stated ad nauseum.

But not if the weight system works for you.

Say a photographer wants to take four cameras in individual cases each weighing 10 kilos. Under the old system they would have excess baggage - under the weight system no excess baggage.

Or take my personal experience. First time travelling with small baby we had lots of bags (including a stroller in a bag that they counted as part of the weight limit - when they shouldn't) - we certainly had more than six bags across the wife and I (child was a lap baby so slightly different luggage allowance) so we would have been worse off under the old system.

I am happy to agree that the weight limit has been reduced but it is not necessarily an absolute worse off position.

Having said that I think that the difference between the limits makes it look worse than it is.

If I look at my trip this year with three of us in J syd-dxb-lca return. Under the new policy we would be entitled to 150KG of luggage if we fly in J all the way (we might be in whY DXb-LCA-DXB on separate tickets) and a paltry 110KG if in whY for part of it.

Personally I think that is a huge amount of stuff to be taking (the prior journey referenced above we took 89KG including the stroller as part of that) and we wont even get close to that (for a start we don't need to take as many winter woollens as we will be in shorts/t shirts the entire time) - unless I take a lot of dive gear with me...

Flip that around and on the old policy (which in fact applies to my syd-dxb-syd flights) we are entitled to 320KG

For me personally it is like being told at check in to a hotel that I no longer have free access to the minibar - I can just drink all the wine, beer and spirits...

Again like everything some will win, some will loose. I don't think there is a perfect soultion really, and besides even with the revised weights system, IIRC those weights are still better (for most) than the older weights based system.

Had a similar thing with an MXP-LHR sector, issue with the flight plan, delayed 1hr on the ground with only a 2 hour connection T5->T3. Made it, was technically offloaded but reloaded when I arrived at the gate just in time for QF F boarding to SIN :)

Certainly no horror stories like these others, and never seen the fast track closed during my transits.

T5 --> T3 was quite a horror last time. No Fast Track and we hat to wait about 50 Minutes - so no Lounge and just rushing to our plane.

I just got my QF newsletter, and discussing the baggage they stated "To better enable a seamless customer experience, Qantas will be moving from a piece and weight system, to a weight system".

I swear they said the exact same thing when they moved to a piece system domestically.

Why don't they say "we giveth, then we taketh away" ;)

Frankly I'm gutted by the change in baggage allowances - like others I believed them when they said that they would jointly go with the higher benefit so I was looking forward to being able to use my WP 3 x 32kg on Emirates flights out of Perth - only to have it taken away not only on Emirates but also on QF flights to Europe as well. If I had of known that this was going to happen then I wouldn't have bothered making sure that I requalified as a WP. I might have to do some hunting around to see what other FF program options are out there now that better suit my needs - Qantas I think you have lost me this time.

There are more people flying Y than J or F put together.

Granted, pax with status will lose out compared to what was on previously.

However, the 10kg extra per Y pax benefits more people. Therefore, I feel that is not necessarily a "bad" thing.

Less "status benefits" for some of us (make no mistake, me included - SG), but my sons (and others) travelling at the back of the bus will gain more for their bucks.

I am not fussed over this issue.

A tiny bit of transient annoyance, that's all.

What do you need to take away with you that weighs 96kg?

Usually about 80+kgs of camera & related equipment. Access to Emirates route network with my QF WP baggage allowance was going to be brilliant for me as I do a lot of work in Africa but alas these changes have made a mess of it.

I am travelling from ADL - DXB - MAD, then using points to get to LHR, then points to Berlin, then flying back Berlin - Frankfurt with Air Berlin, then EK from Frankfurt - DXB - ADL. I called the Qantas Club today who confirmed that I could not use the Emirates lounge in Frankfurt (annoyed) but that I can use the Japan Airlines lounge as my EK flight has a QF number.
Points for discussion please fellow frequent flyers / QC members:
1. I wonder if I will be able to get into the BA lounge at T5. I did last October with no problems when I was flying BA on Avios points to Berlin;
2. I wonder how much longer the agreement will last with the Japan Airlines lounge at Frankfurt now the QF flights have been stopped;
3. I am really annoyed that Qantas Club members will be flying all over Europe from DXB and, on return, won't be able to use Emirates lounges in any European city.

This is my first post on a thread, having just joined. Looking forward to some replies!!!!

Welcome, and sorry I couldn't resist, but it was in jest ;)

It is unfortunate that QC members seem to have lost some lounge access benefits, however it is more related to BA changing its lounge access policy and the end of the JSA than anything specific to the QC.

It is hoped that QF will make an arrangement with EK for QC lounge access, but to be honest I think the BA lounges were more of a bonus, as technically QC is not a OW benefit.

Qantas Club Members travelling between Australia and the UK via Singapore, Bangkok and Hong Kong on Qantas or British Airways services, or travelling on other British Airways flights connecting with these services, can access the British Airways Terrace, Executive and Galleries Lounges. Access to the British Airways Lounge in New York is also available for Qantas Club Members travelling on the QF108. We are currently working with British Airways on the recent changes to their lounge access policy.

Of course if you fly a little more you can get lounge access the world over with SG/WP ;)

And all of this may change March 31!

Can somebody please explain the frequent flyer earning changes for me? Does this mean I can earn QFF points on any emirates booked flight (even booked on emirates website) or must the flight be a codeshare flight booked through qantas on an emirates plane for me to earn the points
