The trick is to get stuck on LHI, kpc, not on the mainland.;) Last October we had to spend an extra night at LHI as flights could not get in or out due to wild wind and rain, much like I expect the weather they are having today. It was great - the island is almost as sensational in a storm as when it's calm and sunny. Have a good time, whenever you get there.

Damn! Best of luck tomorrow. :)
This is my trip report to LDH. Friday - flight cancelled; Saturday- flight cancelled:(:(:(. As we were only going for 3 nites, I''ve cancelled the trip. The flights will be refunded but will have to claim accommodation from insurance

Such a pity, but don't give up on LHI - it's worth persevering. The flight cancellations will be upsetting a lot of people's plans to get in or out. QF is still maintaining some optimism about flights in and out later in the day but who knows. Sadly for you, someone is enjoying your accommodation during the storm. Three nights might not have been quite enough time anyway...

Thanks. ..we were told at the airport that all flights are cancelled for today. We will book for some other time for slightly longer...need to go and read my insurance policy as soon as I get home.

I'm sure there is little chance of any flights today although QF are still showing the 1:50 from Syd and the 4:10 from LHI. We'll be there for a week in October, weather willing.:D

QF have no conceded defeat and all flights to/from LHI are cancelled for today. Sad for kpc (and others):(, great for those 'stuck' there:rolleyes:.

Wonderful Place, absolutely unspoiled timeless magic.
Ticked a box on the bukit list and went last xmas.
World class adventure walk to climb MtGower
Neat little 9 hole golf course
Do stay at Arajilla if you can afford it.
Quite atmospheric as they weighed everyone and everything for the flight home...

Spoke to my accommodation at LDH...weather is not too bad there now but apparently the planes' diversion point if they can't land at LDH is Port Macquarie / mid North Coast where the weather is appalling.

Looked at my travel insurance and I think I should be covered for the accommodation. Whilst those stuck on LDH may be glad to have extra days there, there are probably many that have other flights and commitments, and are very anxious to leave. QF cancelled 4 flights today so there are many pax affected. Felt really sorry for the American couple who came all the way here to visit LDH...they will now be stuck at the Mercure hotel (not a 5* ;)) for a 2nd nite:eek:

Just cancelled my leave for Monday so I won't lose another day of my precious annual leave:shock:

Very disappointing for you but great to see your response to circumstances which are out of everyone's control.
Maybe the Traveller's Motto should be: "Blessed are the flexible, for they shall not get bent out of shape!"
That, and: "Have good travel insurance!"
The weather gods will smile upon you next time.

I guess if you travel alot, these things are bound to happen! It is beyond everyone's control. I would have been a little more upset if my trip to Victoria Falls, and Machu Picchu late last year were cancelled at the last minute!!

Just spent a week there early January this year. One of the very few magical places left on our earth!

I could quite easily spend the rest of my days sitting on the beach with a bottle of champagne and watching the best night sky you will ever see :)

I recall on our trip a way back when that on the day we were due to fly out the flight was delayed and there was a chance the incoming flight couldn't land. We were taken to the bar of Capella South to wait all the while thinking "Yes! Yes! Cancel the flight so we can stay on!"

LHI is a magical place just off the NSW coast. Serviced by QF on a Dash 8 (one class only), the airfare is very expensive at around $1000 return for the cheapest red-e fare from Sydney or Brisbane. However, the proximity means only 16000 points (+taxes) are required for a return trip which is good value. Book early and enjoy this very special place. :)

never thought of going there but I have seen docos on it. Worth a look. Thanks

Well, I was able to snag two Classic Awards for myself and Dad after I saw this thread started in November (I think). And tomorrow is the day we head off! Flying MEL-SYD tonight and then tomorrow morning off to the island. Can hardly wait!

... For now, back to work.

You might need a wet-suit for snorkelling but it's worth it. If not just enjoy the views. If you decide to climb Mt. Gower (amazing) just make sure you are really fit and can pull yourself up a few ropes (actually about 25). We went in a mixed group with ages up to 74 but we were all more than a bit stiff the next day.
ENJOY!

Thanks for that grusselld, I read almost everywhere that you should have a guide with you.. Dad and I are rather fit, do you recommend we take a guided tour or were you able to manage?
