I'm flying Auckland - Perth in J aboard Air New Zealand but on a DJ flight number.

Is there any way for me to access the Air NZ booking reference no. to advance seat select ?

I did a similar thing with Skywest recently when the DJ website wouldn't let me seat select on another carrier.

Been in the same situation a couple of times and don't think it's possible unfortunately.

I am guessing here, but I would think you would need the NZ PNR to access their booking management. VA may be able to give that to you over the phone, failing that call up NZ and see what they can do for you.

Unfortunately, unless an Air NZ flight is booked using "AIRNZ.com", the online seat selection generally cannot be used.

Posted on a wing and a prayer ...

Earlier this year I tried every avenue that I could think of doing this and was unsuccessful.

I think though as a DJ status member someone from Air NZ will put you at the front of the plane. I got put in premium economy earlier this year flying to Auckland on the 777.

I called and got the Gold Priority line they have given me the Air NZ res. no.

But it didn't work on Air Nz's website. Alas.

Yes, us too! Contacted both SQ and DJ. DJ said that if they could access it (and they did in the past) then sometimes bookings got accidentally cancelled. SQ said the best they could do was try to seat us together - given we are on the same booking, that is what I would expect anyway. Status doesn't help a bit. :( Stupid system, we accessed BA through our Qantas booking.

Air NZ's system seems to not allow you to select seats online if you're on a codeshare and not the NZ flight number. I haven't had an issue with seating for bookings on NZ flight numbers - be it booked directly or via a GDS eg. Amadeus.

This is a DJ issue and not an AirNZ issue.

As has been explained a few times previously, this will be resolved shortly when DJ swap to sabre.

I have a separate question in the same vain -- (benefits for status pax flying DJ flight number on AirNZ metal)

Currently good deals with Air NZ for next year (NZ150 promo code), if I book through VA's website and I'm a Velocity Gold member, do I get any complimentary baggage on the sale fare? (Through AirNZ's website it's classed as "seat only".

I'm expecting no - in that case is the only benefit then any points bonus on the fare? (i.e. I'll get one if I've got a DJ flight number, but I won't if it's Air New Zealand?)

Thanks for your help

You get your DJ baggage allowance.

Thanks for the quick reply. That's pretty good. I think I can handle giving up my advanced seat selection for that!
Travelling on the B777 we (4 of us) got a bonus up grade to PE. Two of us had Plat status.

You still get to use the Koru Club.

Nice!
I'm looking at SYD-ZQN, which is an A320 - and during ski season they're usually pretty packed.
Ah - and VA's website is now working again and confirming the information you gave me above, great - thanks! (Before, it was giving me an error about technical difficulties bringing my Velocity account info in on the booking...)

I will turn gold as soon as the points post for the flight I took yesterday, but I'm guessing I'm better off booking as a silver (still get the free bags) and then when I get to gold, call them and ask them to re-apply it?
Or is there no point in doing that...
