I was just playing with an idea of throwing my Thur 20th flights (J) into credit and buying a cheap Y to come home on, at a >$2K purchase price, this would go a long way toward a SYD/LHR flight next year....

My hopes were dashed...

However, in Jan 13....

Everyone wants to get out of KTA (finishing work and visiting relatives in more southern parts) before christmas.

If you fly from Port Headland, you can get to SYD on QF for $534.
Flights from Karratha to Port Headland on Air North are about $100. If you take the 6.20am Greyhound to Port Headland (for $68) it arrives at 9.30am......which is just enough time to catch the 11.00am flight to PER, then on to SYD.

You answered your own question - the dates say it all. That Thursday to Xmas Eve are the busiest flying days of the year so most people fill those flights very early to get home for Christmas. Supply + Demand = Price

Yeah, well, I will just kick back in a lounge chair row 2, enjoy a crownie or 2 and contemplate what could have been ;)

I would imagine that day and Fri 21 will be the final day of the year for most people.
