I'm amazed they managed to sell new ones considering how little the A340's are going for on the second hand market.

Must be different A340 to the one I've been on as I find them quiet

My favourite plane for going between SIN and LAX that is for sure. We have travelled with between 33 and 69 on board the SQ 100 seater.

Bit sad, at least those two last frames found a home.

Always liked the A340. Wonder how long until they become a true novelty and end up in Africa, Iran etc?

An indelible memory of mine is watching a CX 343 land and taxi to the gate at AKL (meeting someone on it). Just the silhouette against the ocean backdrop as it turned from side on to front on - I guess you had to be there, but it looked big, and it looked beautiful. Only flown on it once (coincidentally AKL-HKG on CX) and a pleasant journey was had.

I believe SAA and Egypt Air leased the 340-200? There were only 28 made?

Lufthansa was the launch customer for the 200. Wingspan was longer than the fuselage.

An A340-500 was the plane that got me to Australia about ten years ago when I migrated here so a bit sad about it :-| Saying that- times change and I'd prefer a nice big A380 any days! :D

RJ and Aerolineas Argentinas operate 4 each as owners, and they are regular Australian visitors in the case of Sydney and Perth airports, Springbok has two they own.

And the only reason it climbed on take-off was due to the curvature of the earth :p
