Hi all

I am getting married in koh samui in June next year and we are flying with qantas to Bangkok. But was wondering which airline to fly to koh samui with. I will have excess baggage and was wondering who has better rates/allowance ???

Thanks in advance

Firstly congratulations!

How much excess luggage are you talking about? You'll have a choice between Thai or Bangkok Airways. Unless you're really tight on budget, the cost of business class on both carriers is marginally greater than economy. If you need a greater luggage allowance this would be the first thing that I'd consider (and you'll then also have access to the relevant business class facilities during transit). For both carriers it seems relatively simple, Y you get 20 kg, J you get 30 kg. Is 30 each enough?

Finally, looks like quite an interesting airport - all outdoors.

Thanks. I will have a look at the business class fares. 30 each should be ok. Not sure if we are taking the bridal party clothes or if we will get them to carry it. Better half is worried someone will leave something behind.

The airport is all open. Quite enjoyed it there when we went over to sort out wedding plans.

If you join Bangkok Flyer Bonus programme you also get additional 10kg luggage allowance for free. So thats probably 30kg in economy and 40kg in business

+1 to that.
Bangkok Airways ... and my understanding is they either own Samui airport or have a major control in it.
The terminal is very good as well.

We visit Samui every few years as we pass through BKK and always hope across with Bangkok Airways. They also have these cute little mini-lounges you can use. A few chairs, tea & coffee and a few little nibbles. Nothing flash, but a nice little bonus.

Anyways, congrats.

Bangkok airways is great. Did BKK to USM on them last year and the little things like the free lounge access just make it feel like a nice airline.

As stated before, the lounges are nothing flash but beat a normal gate wait any day.

Well that is interesting. I have a lot of guest booked on thai already. Might need to dig a little deeper on this and make sure. Might be a problem

Still shows in TGs schedule and can still be booked. Maybe they are transferring pax to Bangkok Airways?

Unless they have since reinstated them??

EDIT: cancel that! They've cancelled the cancellation!!
