Hi, My sister and brother in law are travelling Malaysian airlines SYD-KUL-BOM next month in Economy. They have 16 hours stopover (involuntary) in KL for which Malaysian airlines have offered day use room at airport hotel (Pan Pacific) but no meals included and it clearly states in booking confirmation/etkt that "STPC Day use Double room No meals".

Is this normal for them to offer just hotel rooms but no meals. I have travelled with Malaysian some years ago and I was offered hotel room+meal vouchers.
I would appreciate if anyone can suggest what should they do, should they ring up Malaysian airlines contact centre and request for meal vouchers to be included?

thanks

Particularly in economy nowadays it is abnormal for any hotels to be offered.
IF this was the "deal" when they booked I would not expect to get any more.

Why have they booked a 16-hour layover. MH has much shorter connections
MH140 SYD 2155 KUL 0320+1 -- 5hr40min layover
MH174 KUL 0900 BOM 1125

I assume they are connecting to
MH194 KUL 2005 2240 -- which is a 16hr connection mostly daytime

I think same fare class was not available for MH 174 (but it was available for MH194) so they ended up having 16 hours stopover. I have heard Malaysian airlines still regularly provides STPC in Economy if stopover>8 hours, has this now changed?

I see that as an opportunity to get some sight seeing in.

consider themselves lucky to have a hotel room at all considering the shorter connection is available but they were not willing to pay for it.

By all means ring and ask whether a meal voucher can be included. you might get lucky! Otherwise, hotel coffee shop, or pick up some snacks at the airport on arrival, or pack a cup-a-soup and some crackers before leaving home or some instant noodles in a bowl they can just add boiling water to.

It isgood they will get hotel room I dont think buying meal is going to be a problem for them

Turn a negative into a positive, 16 hour stop over inc accom....love it ! Get the KLIA Ekspres fast train (1/2 hour)into KL. Check out KL, see some of the sights (Petronas Towers still has a serious wow factor) and plenty of great reasonably priced restaurant. Still have time to get back to the (free) hotel to freshen up. Sounds good to me.

When I was at KLIA I also noticed they had free tours for anyone with more than 5 hour stopover. But I agree about the express train - 35 MYR which is about $11 or there are cheaper options with the bus. Re Petronas Towers you need to get there early to get a booking and I wouldn't bother if the weather is bad. Go early in the morning if possible.

On the subject of meal vouchers - the airport may be a bit different but food was dirt cheap in KL.

Hi ,

Can anyone advise me if I book Malaysian Airlines from Perth- KL- Mumbai in November/December with a 12 hours stopover i.e. flight reaches KL at 9 pm and leaves next morning at 9 am on a Q class or N class fare , will I be eleigible for STPC, the travel agent has confirmed that we will but I am not sure

Thx
