As for Berlin, the domestic 330's are certainly much newer than even the newest 747 QF have on board. I agree the products you can't compare, but the 747 product was never intended for domestic use really

My bad- yes, the 747s are older and that's the reason why I don't like them on international routes. However, as you say, flying it on the trans-Australian route was a nice experience while it lasted!

I also have a nice J booking coming up which was meant to be on a 747 and now got downgraded to some coughpy old A330-200 with domestic seating. As much as I otherwise like QF- their changing of aircraft which usually comes hand in hand with a downgrade of hard product is appalling :evil:

How often I got downgraded from an A380 to an old and tatty 747 with Gen 1 seating in J is far beyond "for technical reasons". It rather has to do with QF postponing/canceling orders of new aircraft to save a buck. It doesn't get unnoticed by customers, certainly not!

I flew a gen 1 from SYD to HKG the other day, a piece of nostalgia indeed....it was the crew that made that a great flight.

True true, it's now becoming something oh historic value, isn't it? Nice to hear that you had a great crew- that's usually the make or break anyway. The best flat seats don't help if you got a crew that doesn't care. Luckily, QF International staff gets it right in 98% of cases in my experience...
