Just been offered upgrade to Star Class HNL-SYD leg only

Just received a call from Jet Star offering me a special upgrade price on the return leg only of our upcoming HNL-SYD flights (19/11) Earn Points/SC's, entry into the Honolulu Business Class Lounge, increased cabin baggage, snacks and drinks on board....all sounded good until she said it would cost $429.00 pp each...when I said that was too expensive she then offered me a price of $329.00 each but minus the points, SC's and entry into lounge...was not interested as this is more than what we paid for the flights in the first place during a sale and have been previously offered $199 upgrades at Honolulu airport - maybe we will be lucky again. Apparently the SYD-HNL leg is already sold out in *class.

its a daytime flight so wouldnt bother...we recently flew *class return and its was just OK but as we had great prices it was worth it but having said that wouldnt fly with Jetstar again and forget Qantas as way too expensive and flying inferior class planes

How else do you plan on getting to HNL? It's not like anyone's much better on this route.

Out of curiosity, don't HA offer recliners in J as well?
Granted they have more room than JQ, but still not beds.

As you have experienced, J* will sell the seats before you get to the airport so don't expect to be able to get to the airport and pay $200 for an upgrade

The good old days you get to the airport early, ask for the upgrade, pay $200 and get SC and points!

$429 for 7611 points and 140SC's is not that bad!

personally I would put that back on an hourly basis, say $33/hr, not bad really.

yes recliner seat and I think they call it First. it's a step up trom JQ but also usually $1000-$2000 more expensive.

After reading the above maybe I should have a bit of a re-think and I just did a dummy booking for the same date and still plenty of room in *Class, but as its a day time flight and I had already paid extra for extra leg room seats and those entertainment units, the extra $858.00 could buy a lot of shopping at Ala Moana....decisions, decisions

Well, while the huge Ala Moana complex is good (specially the Apple Shop) my good lady heads straight to Waikele Premium Outlets not sure how many bags she has from there but her robe looks pretty full!. And guys check out Best Buys and the Bose store.

Back to OP question re seats, we have done this trip twice in past few years once on QA in Y and once on JQ in J, the latter's "seats" are just that, no lie flat, bit wider, leather, a tad more room, if person in front puts seat all way back you'll feel like a sardine, so bulkhead seats are best. If you took up the points offer you will get stacks.

The answer to the best seat depends on which config operates the flight. If you have 42J, I would be guessing that the bulkhead would be reasonable. If it is the older config, 2D is great in terms of amount of legroom.

I sit in 2D whenever possible and have never been rammed by an FA yet. Will be there tomorrow and let you know if it happens.
