What to wear in J class

This is a (semi) serious question.

My wife and are travelling to Europe courtesy of Velocity Rewards (Etihad) in J class return next March. The last time we went there it was on Premium Economy, and I had no qualms about wearing comfy tracky dacks. But now?

So what is the forum consensus on appropriate J class travel wear?

I generally go for the comfort, but looking good too. Only because it makes me feel better when I'm well presented. Mr Mella on the other hand will always fly in tracksuit pants or loose jeans no matter what class he's flying in.
Ultimately it's irrelevant how you get to sit in J. Paid, upgraded or using points...we are all people and I think nothing bad of anyone when I see them look comfortable for a long haul flight.

Hi blinky, I have never travelled on Etihad in any class but my advice in general is to dress smart casual and bring something comfy ( track suit, airline PJ's ) to sleep in. It's much nicer to arrive wearing clothing that you haven't spent 20+ hours in

I have a daughter Fiona BTW. She's a Primary School teacher and she actually convinced some of her preps that she was the real Princess Fiona.

Anyway, that's not a bad suggestion. Wear decent clothes and pack tracky dacks for sleeping. I don't think Etihad hands out jamas.

No they don't in J. Not sure whether you have flown with them before, but if not have a good look at the seating. If you want to sit together you will need to go for a pair of seats in the centre. The window/aisle seats are staggered.

Thanks. We got the middle seats. I also learnt from this forum to ring Velocity to change seats. We were initially allocated seats in row 12, right in front of the bassinet row, and the Etihad website showed no other vacant seats. I rang them and got seats in row5. This sold me on this site.

On the odd occasion i fly F i am impressed to see that most up the really pointy end don't care how they are dressed. Tracky dacks everywhere, right from boarding.

I think the only person that should care what you wear on an aircraft is you. Obviously boarding wearing a mankini or offensive logos/t-shirts are off the menu. When I fly I tend to go hand luggage only so what I wear on the flight needs to be part of what I will be wearing on the trip. You need to be comfortable both physically and in terms of how you want to look on the flight.

There are times when the flight is not just a way from a to b but an experience and an event - on those occasions looking and feeling special are as important as being comfortable.

For the record my son wore a superman suit for his first international J trip - he was nine months old though.

I have travelled EY in J several times and the only consistency in clothing is the inconsistency.

Wear what's comfortable and appropriate for you. It doesn't matter what the other pax think.

My flights on QF, BA and EK in F International (USA F is more casual) I don't remember seeing one person in tracky dacks (always smart casual) and the only casual dress is after they change into PJ's.

I go for nice jeans and shirt for airport (J/Flounge) and on board I will change to pjs, I also always carry a change of clothes in my hand luggage just in case something happens during the flight or my luggage is delayed.

I travel in what I'm comfortable in regardless of travel class - that's usually jeans and a polo shirt. I don't get changed into PJs until I'm ready to sleep, and I change back either just before the breakfast service commences or soon after.

Regardless of weather where I'm going I also always travel with a warm jacket in my carry on (think about it).
