Hi all,

I am flying on sq mel-sin-mnl on 14Oct12 and back on 19Oct12 in Y (H bucket)- flying with my relatively new A3 membership to move me from Blue (*A silver) to Gold (*A Gold).

When I try to do my seat allocation on the SQ web site, for the MEL-SIN and SIN-MEL segments, I only see middle seats available (about 6 on both fights) but when I check on EF, I see most seats are occupied or blocked (about 1/2 are blocked). I don't expect that as a *A silver, I will get access to special seating - as I understand it not even SQ Golds get that- I just want to select a window in any row. According to EF, there are plenty of window seats that are not occupied, but blocked so I am unable to select them.

On the SIN-MNL-SIN flights, I have managed to snag windows.

My outbound flight is SQ238 on 14Oct and return is SQ237 on 19Oct.

Is there any way that I can allocate seats for the MEL-SIN-MEL segments? Should I call them? Will the seats open up for seletion at T-80 or something similar?

Help appreciated.

In light of there being no known answers...call the call centre and ask politely.

When i fly from BNE, I can never pre-select the front row of J. Although when online checkin opens I move myself up to front row. Possible the same for window.

Enjoy MNL, it's a blast.

Thanks for the input Alby, I was figuring on a call to them: I figured an AFFer with more SQ experience would be able to answer off the top of their head.

I miss the days of J travel -it is four years this October since I was allowed to book J travel. :(

SQ is inconsistent at best with seat allocation, that's why difficult to answer off the top of the head. When you ring I suggest, if they won't let you select a specific seat, to at least ask for a window seat. At T-48 you can check in online and see what is left. Sometimes they block seats for high tiers, codeshares, groups etc. My experience as a PPS is that I get better seats if I don't check in online, but I wouldn't say that holds true for a star silver!

SQ is inconsistent at best with seat allocation, !

Oh I agree to that so much..

On a recent trip to India... my family of 4 was seated separately on all the 4 legs of the journey.. worst is SIN-DEL my 6 year old daughter seated about 10 rows away.. complaint plenty to the staff.. they even agree this breaches their policy as a child that young cannot be seated separately.. but they can not do anything..

other was DEL-SIN.. we were told "No we can not seat you together as seats are blocked".. why are they blocked no explanation.. and when we boarded the plane.. guess what.. plane is only 60% full.. so we found 3+1 seats nearby and moved..

at singapore chec-in for last SIN_SYD (had a 2 days stopver in SIN)... same thing.. complaint a lot.. and just given standard reply..

had called them on multiple occassions and even asked the call centre staff to send message to Airport so they can manually allocate seats...

checking-in online was no good as couldn't move us all together due to seat availability..

just think that either the staff are incompetent or just plain lazy to even try..

guess was my first and probably last time with SQ>.
